INTRODUCTION

A smart storage and retrieval system is a system that can be us

e for storing and retrieving the loads from specified storage area
.

One low RPM motor to make the vertical moments(up and dow
n) of the elevator.

The To and Fro (forward and backward) motion is achieved by a

second motor with less rpm which is fixed on the elevator with t
he help of rack and pinion.

The system gets the input given by push buttons which is assig
ned for give input to the system.

3
OBJECTIVES

To make a smart storage system with multiple racks.

To use limit switch and magnetic reed switch mechanism to control the
vertical and horizontal movement of the elevator.

To move the elevator by using two dc gear motors.

4
MECHANICAL DESIGN

5
WORKING DESCRIPTION

Storage racks can be moved with the help of elevator and rack a
nd pinion arrangement.

The entire system is powered by 2 dc gear motors(30 and 100

rpm).

After removing products from rack, it can be retrieved back to t

heir pre occupied position with the help of rack and pinion and e
levator arrangements.

MODULAR BLOCK DIAGRAM

7
MODULE 1&2
The dc regulated power supply converts from ac into pure dc .

The desired output voltage for certain modules are obtained usi
ng a regulators.

The LM7805 provides an output of 5V / 500mA.

The LM7812 provides an output of 12V / 2A.

8
MODULE 3
AT89S52 is the controller that we have used in this project.

It controls all the operations of a smart storage and retrieve sys

tem.

The microcontroller receives the inputs from push buttons.

The output motors are controlled by the microcontroller accordin

g to its inputs.

9
MODULE 4

This system operates under push button control.

We used 4 push buttons.

This push button is used for give the input to the system.

10
MODULE 5

We used 2 limit switches, when the object is touched to the actu

ator of the limit switch it will cut off the power of the object.

We used limit switch to make stop of the vertical moments of th

e elevator.

11
MODULE 6

The L298 motor driver is used to control the DC gear motor use
d for the forward and backward motion of the dc gear motor.

It provides 2A current per motor connected to this driver.

12
And it consist of 1 DC gear motor of 30 RPM and 1 dc gear mot
or of 100 rpm.

One 30 RPM dc gear motor used for controlling the vertical moti
on of the elevator.

One 100 rpm motor is used for controlling To and Fro motion of
the elevator.

13
MODULE 7

The reed switch contains a pair (or more) of m

agnetisable, flexible metal reeds whose end port
ions are separated by a small gap when the swit
ch is open.
when magnet contacts with magnetic reed
switch, a NO switch become as NC switch and t
he supply will pass.

14
MODULE 8

This module consist of LCD display(16*2 matrix).

It shows position of the rack which is selected.

17
Software

We have successfully tested all modules.

Then we tested the DC motor and L298 driver with final progra
m.

The DC motor was rotating according to the program.

OVER ALL BILL OF MATERIALS

20
ADVANTAGES

A smart storage and retrieval system helps by minimizing the a

mount of unnecessary parts and products in storage, and impro
ving organization of the contents of a warehouse.

Reduces the working period of time.

21
DISADVANTAGES

If any disturbances or error occur in the system it cannot be con

trolled automatically.

22
Application

Smart storage and retrieval system is associated with warehous

e and distribution operations.

It can be associated with libraries.

23
CONCLUSION

We could learn about smart storage and retrieval system and it

s working.

We learned how a Mechatronic system need to be designed.

We successfully completed and tested the two modules.
