ADVANTAGES
Continuous bond LIMITATION
Why Adhesive? Stiffer structures Temperature resistance
Improved appearance Chemical resistance
Jointing sensitive materials Curing time
Complex assemblies Surface preparation
Dissimilar materials Process controls
Reduced corrosion
Brief description about method
Purpose of using multi adhesive is to improve the joint strength and also
minimization of stress concentration. In this investigation attempt is to provide
a simple but accurate solution to calculate the shear stress in the adhesive
region
Stiffer adhesive
To increase joint strength
To reduce stress concentration
Less stiff adhesive
Less stiff adhesive
Opportunity
Effect of the adhesive modulus on the adhesive stress
distribution along the overlap .
The stress concentration towards the ends of a bonded lap joint depends to some extent on the
relative stiffnesses of the adherend and the adhesive used.
A low modulus adhesive gives a more uniform stress distribution in comparison to a
stiff adhesive where there is a high stress concentration at the ends of the overlap .

Proposed Solution different from market.
Continuous bond
With the use of hybrid adhesive(stiff adhesive and flexible adhesive together) the
strength, shear stress , peel stress and longitudinal normal stress of the joint is
increased.
Development of single lap joint bonded by hybrid adhesive (one stiff and one
flexible).
Stiffer structures
Improved appearance
Jointing sensitive materials
How Your Proposed solution is different from existing solution available in market?
Research Gap
Many researchers have worked on using different lap joint
which is made of single adhesive.
But there is scope for hybrid adhesive joint.
What is the effect of different position of adhesive on
particular single lap joint.
What is the effect of changing parameter like adhesive
thickness on particular Geometry.
Idea Validation from Customers/Experts
No validation done till now, as test specimens needed to be
prepared, which is quite costlier.
In current proposal cost pertaining to development of test specimen
(prototype) is considered
Seeking IP protection on which
aspects/features of invention..??
Proper method of utilization of hybrid joint is implemented and that
should be followed whenever it is applicable.
We are going to patent our research and secure our idea.
