HISTORY
Hydrogen Energy

• Hydrogen is the simplest and most plentiful element

in the universe.
• It’s always combined with other elements.

• NASA has used liquid hydrogen since the 1970s to

propel the space shuttle and other rocket into orbit.
Hydrogen Production Methods
1. Production of hydrogen from hydrocarbons
a) Steam Methane Reforming
b) Partial Oxidation Hydrocarbons
2. Production of hydrogen by coal gasification
3. Hydrogen production from electrolysis of water
4. Hydrogen production from nuclear energy
5. Hydrogen production from wind energy
6. Hydrogen production from biomass
7. Use of solar energy to produce hydrogen.
How does a fuel cell work?

• It operates similarly to a battery, but it does not require run down nor does it
require charging.
• As long as fuel is supplied, a fuel cell will produce both energy and heat.
• A fuel cell consist of two catalyst coated electrodes surrounding an electrolyte.
• One electrode is an anode and other is cathode.
• The process begins when hydrogen molecules enter the anode.
• The catalyst coating separates hydrogen’s negatively charged electrons from the
positively charged protons.
• The electrolyte allows the protons to pass through to the cathode, but not the
electrons.
• Instead the electrons pass through an external circuit, oxygen molecules pass
through the external circuit.
• When the oxygen and the protons combine with the electrons it produces water
and heat.

• Storage as metal hydride
HYDROGEN STORAGE (TODAY)
Challenges to fuel cell technology
Components of Hydrogen Economy
Hydrogen fuel cars
Since no one really knows what the future holds. Honda and other companies is
covering all its alt- fuel
Bases with one vehicle such as THE CLARITY, HYUNDAI TUSCON,
TESLA MODEL S.
FUTURE CONSIDERATIONS

• Japan took an early lead on the path towards a society that uses hydrogen
as a major source of power. For example, hydrogen-powered fuel cell
cars were first put on the market by Japanese automaker.
• Now TMG is actively promoting the use of hydrogen as an energy source
with moves including
a) Power source in OLYMPICS 2020
b) Use hydrogen fuel cars to get athlete from villages to venue.
Conclusion:

Hydrogen fuel cell will dramatically change our cars, however our homes
and business are powered and heated , and it both positively and negatively
change places like the Middle east and third world countries. They will also
clean up the world’s air.
