 OJT’s Overview

 As mandated by CHED (CMO 37 Series of 2000) BS in Criminology

students are required to take Practicum for 1 semester on the fourth
year of the program. The Practicum shall be divided in two
components, 270 hrs of on-the-job training and another 270 hrs. of
Community Immersion, to complete the 540 hrs of internship.

 The Practicum is designed to provide practical experiences for BS

Crim. students working in the 5 pillars of the Criminal Justice System:
Law Enforcement, Prosecution, Judiciary, Corrections and the
Community. During this period, the criminology interns are allowed
to observe and assist, but not to perform actual operations that may
compromise their safety. Interns are expected to keep the
information’s learned during the practicum confidential.


Provisions
 PHASES:

 Pre Immersion refers to the preparatory stage of the

practicum.

 Immersion on the other hand refers to the Practicum

proper where the students gain practical hands- on
experience.

 Post Immersion refers to the culmination of the

practicum proper.
 Specific Objectives

 Provide Criminology Interns the opportunity to

gain practical/ hands-on experience in the field;

 Enhance the personality , confidence, mediation/

negotiation, public relations/communication and
critical thinking skills of the Criminology Interns;

 Inculcate in the interns the value of respect for the

law and service to the community, and,

 Provide opportunities for the interns to integrate

and synthesize the various theories in Criminology.
 Safety First

 Safety and Protection: The Higher Education

Institution ( HEI) shall ensure the safety and
protection to life and limb of the Criminology
Interns at all times during the Practicum as well as
the provision of insurance coverage and othe
appropriate safety nets.
