Volcanoes

Brianna Maxfield
Topics I need to Research

1. What parts of the United States are most vulnerable to volcanoes?

2. How can we lessen the effects of volcanoes?
3. How can we better prepare for a volcano?
How I Found my Sources
While researching and finding sources for my topic, I found Google to be the most
helpful. I used phrases like “What parts of the United States are most vulnerable
to volcanoes” and “ways to lessen the effects of volcanoes”.
3-5 Sources with Justification

1. Bada, Ferdinand. "Which States In The US Have the Most Active Volcanoes?" WorldAtlas, Sept. 23, 2019,
worldatlas.com/articles/which-states-in-the-us-have-most-active-volcanoes.html.

This site gave several different areas in the U.S that volcanoes exist, when they last erupted and how likely they are to
erupt and when.

1. “Which U.S volcanoes pose a threat?” USGS, Dec. 19,2018, https://www.usgs.gov/news/which-us-volcanoes-pose-a-threat

This site was helpful because I was able to find which volcanoes pose the biggest threat. With this information we can
better know how to help those in possible danger.

1. State of Alaska, “volcano mitigation”, Division of homeland security & emergency management, 2010,
https://ready.alaska.gov/Plans/mitigation/volcano

I found this source useful in my research because they give ways that the state of Alaska (although it can be beneficial for
all of us) can prepare now for a volcanic eruption.

1. Ready, “Volcanoes”, (no date given), https://www.ready.gov/volcanoes

His was a helpful resource because it explained different strategies and tips for before, during, and after a volcano.

Reflection on your Research
What facts or ideas that you discovered in your research do you think will be most
relevant to completing your chosen EVENT or PROJECT?

I think having the knowledge on how to prepare for a volcano will be very helpful
with my project. I don’t live near a volcano and I’ve never thought to research the
effects or what to do in the event of one, so doing this research has helped be
have a better understanding of how to help others.
