Comparison:
Control group: Interaction between family and ICU staff and end of life conference as usual
Intervention group: conference with detailed guidelines by one of the authors from University of
Washington and a brochure
Outcome:
Longer conferences and more time for family members to talk with hospital staff may lessen the
burden of bereavement
