Introduction
Natural estrogens such as estrone(E1),estradiol(E2),and
estriol(E3) are among the main environtmental
contaminants. Natural estrogens have been detected in the
effluent of sewage treatment plants .The behavior of natural
estrogen has been investigated by researcher. The
presence of E1 and E2 in rivers and lake implies that E1
and E2 are not completely removed by wastewater
treatment plants.
Material and Method

Material:
Activated Sludge

Method :
1.Activated sludge was collected from a sewage treatment
plant (STP)
2. This plant is operated in a sequential anaerobic/aerobic
mode with a total hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 6 h in
the bioreactor.
Aim of the research

The aim of the research was to study the behavior of E1

and E2 in an activated sludge treatment plant.
Conclusion

- The results indicate that, initially, E2 and E1 decrease due

to sorption onto activated sludge and then degrade through
biodegradation.
- The highest maximum conversion rates of E2 to E1 and
E1 to E2 were found under anaerobic conditions
