I&A DATABASES
Produced by public administrations or private companies that sell
subscriptions to academic and research libraries.

These organizations select the most important journals in a field and

catalogue the articles they publish in order to create a database.

These databases usually offer additional services such as setting user’s

profiles, email alerts, etc.

CITATION INDEXES
A citation index is a specific kind of I&A database that includes the
references cited in each document, allowing the user to establish
which later documents cite which earlier documents.

CITATION INDEXES
Citation indexes are bibliographic databases that include the references
cited in each document. This information:
• is useful as metadata to describe documents (both the citing and the cited
document).
• allows applying information retrieval strategies based on citations:
o citation searching.
o bibliographic coupling: two or more publications share a similar list of
references.
o cocitation: two or more publications are cited together.
• is useful to evaluate scientific outputs.

 GS incrementa el trànsit web envers les revistes, la qual cosa ha facilitat

Anurag Acharya els acords d’indexació amb els editors (ACS, Elsevier, JSTOR, etc.).

 Plantilla reduïda i poca visibilitat (no genera beneficis).

 Productes derivats entre els quals destaquen GS Citations i GS Metrics.
