• Firm - A commercial organization that operates on a for-profit
basis and participates in selling goods or services to consumers.
• Department - Specialized functional area within an organization
or a division, such as accounting, marketing, planning.
• Strategic – Relating to a general plan that is created to achieve
goal.
• Tactical – Relating to or used for a specific plan that is created
to achieve a particular goal.
• Operational – Relating to the operation of a business or
machine.

• Primary Function of Management
• Preparatory Step
• part of management concerned with creating procedures, rules and
guidelines for achieving a stated objective.
• deciding best alternative among others to perform different managerial
functions in order to achieve predetermined goals.
• Focuses on future course of action
• The Function that determines in advance what should be done
• There are different types of planning in a Firm. Such as Firm-Level Planning
(Strategic planning), Department-Level Planning (Tactical Planning),
Operational Planning.

-Planning for the company as a whole is known as Strategic planning.

-high-level overview of the entire business, its vision, objectives, and value.
-Strategic planning is done at the top level of management. Senior
Management.
-Among the most useful tools for strategic planning is SWOT analysis
-This plan is the foundational basis of the organization and will dictate
decisions in the long-term. The scope of the plan can be two, three, five, or
even ten years.

-Support strategic plans by translating them into specific plans relevant to a
distinct area of the organization. Tactical plans are concerned with the
responsibility and functionality of lower-level departments to fulfill their parts of
the strategic plan.

-low-level document that breaks down the broader mission statements into
smaller, actionable chunks. If the strategic plan is a response to “What?”, the
tactical plan responds to “How?”.

-Creating tactical plans is usually handled by mid-level managers.

- they are the plans that are made by frontline, or low-level,
managers. All operational plans are focused on the specific
procedures and processes that occur within the lowest levels of the
organization. Managers must plan the routine tasks of the
department using a high level of detail.

realistic timeframe.
-Cover short period of time.
