 Teddy Daniels is a U.S. Federal Marshal who served in the military

 Chuck and Daniels travel Shutter Island to investigate the disappearance of a

patient named Rachel

 As they dive deeper into the investigation, deeper secrets are revealed

 Daniels realizes the hospital is taking part in unethical treatment of patients;

doctors were implementing psychosurgery – attempting to admit him
 Daniels’ real name is Andrew Laeddis and has
been a mental patient in the hospital for 2
years
 Experiences several delusions- himself, his wife,
and his partner

 He deludes himself into believing that his

wife, Dolores, died in a fire set by a man he
referred to as Laeddis
 Imprisoned on the island

 Chuck is actually Andrew’s psychiatrist

 Persecutory: delusions that an individual is being conspired against, cheated, spied
on, followed, poisoned or drugged, harassed, or obstructed in the pursuit of long-
term goals
 The essential feature of Delusional Disorder is the presence of one or more non-
bizarre delusions that persist for at least 1 month
 Criterion A for schizophrenia has never been met

 Apart from the impact of the delusion(s) or its ramifications, functioning is not markedly
impaired, and behavior is not obviously bizarre or odd

 If manic or major depressive episodes have occurred, these have been brief relative to
the duration of the delusional periods

 The disturbance is not attributable to the physiological effects of a substance or another

medical condition and is not better explained by another mental disorder
 Trauma exposure
 Extreme fear, helplessness, or horror
 Avoidance
 Interpersonal problems
 Continued re-experiencing
 Memories, nightmares, flashbacks

 Symptoms last for more than a month
