HYDROLOGY – scientific study of the movement,
distribution and quality of water on Earth including water
cycle, water resources and environmental watershed
sustainability.
WATER RESOURCES DID YOU
KNOW?

1. 97%: SALT
SURFACE WATER
WATER 3%: FRESH
WATER

2. GROUND

2. UNDER RIVER
FLOW 3. FROZEN WATER
USES OF WATER
1. AGRICULTURAL – estimated 69% worldwide used to
produced food-vegetables, meat and etc.
2. INDUSTRIAL – estimated 22% worldwide used.
Example: Hydraulic dams-water used for cooling
manufacturing plant.
3. HOUSEHOLD – estimated 8% worldwide used like
household activities.
4. RECREATION – Very small percentage
WATER SUPPLY SYSTEM

- Concerned with extraction, treatment and

supply.
- Water supply system includes:
Water pumping, storage and treatment.
Water transmission and distribution.
Water pumping

- Lifting of water from source to storage.

- Forcing water through water treatment facilities.
- Forcing water through transmission and distribution system.
Water STORAGE could be:
- At source prior to transmission.
- At the treatment plant (before and/or after)
- In between the transmission and distribution systems.
- Within the water distribution system.
Water treatment
Process that improves the quality of water to make it more acceptable for a
specific end-use. The end use may be drinking, industrial water supply, irrigation,
river flow maintenance, water recreation or many other uses, including being
safely returned to the environment.
WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM
is the physical works that deliver water from the water source
to the intended end point or user. It is designed to deliver
sufficient water quantity and quality to meet the requirements of
the customer.
