Introduction to SCADA

• Gathering real time data.

• Monitoring equipment.

• Controlling processes.

• Also referred as HMI.

SCADA SYSTEM OVERVIEW
SCADA SYSTEM WITH SINGLE PLC OR COMBINATION OF RTU OR PLCS.
Application of SCADA

• Automate complex industrial processes.

• In Electrical Power System.
• Water treatment plants.
• Railway System.
• Organizations.
Wonderware SCADA.
• SCADA Properties
• Location
• Percentage fill
• Object Size
• Colour (line colour , Text Colour , Fill Colour)
• Value Display
• Touch Pushbutton
• Value Display
• Miscellaneous (visibility , Blink , Orientation , Disable , Tool)
Property window.
Script
1. Window Script.
2. Conditional Script.
3. Application Script.

Excel interfacing with SCADA

Intouch SCADA uses some protocols to interface with excel such as

• DDE
• SUITINK
Introduction to PLC
• It is a micro controller.

• Multiple I/o arrangements.

• Consists non-volatile memory.

• Harsh environment bearing capability.

• “Work Horse” of industry

PLC Architecture
Types of PLC

Types of Modular PLC

PLCs Of Different Company
• Allen Bradley PLCs (AB)
• ABB PLCs (Asea Brown Boveri)
• Siemens PLCs
• Omron PLCs
• Honeywell PLCs
• Bosch PLCs.

PLC Protocols
1. Universal protocol
I. Bode Rate = 19.2 Kbps
II. Range = 10 metre
2. Ethernet protocol
I. Bode rate = 100 mbps
II. Range = maximum (unlimited)
3. Df1 protocol
I. Serial link
II. Rs232 communication cable.
4. Modbus protocol

I. Standard protocol

II. Ethernet to Client.

III. Modbus Rtu –(supported in Micro820,

MicroLogix 1200/1100/1500.)

IV. Modbus IP – (Micro820, Micrologix1400)

Ladder Language
It contains Sequential Control Logics.

A "rung" in the ladder represents a rule.

It contains instructions for

• NO/ NC push buttons.
• Timers , Counters.
• Arithmetic logics , Logical Operators.
• Sequencer , Latch and Unlatch.
• Comparison operators , JSR,SBR,RET SUS etc.
Example of ladder.
NO NC BRANCH o/p or energy coil

Latch Unlatch Branch End

Greater than Timer (ON) Timer (OFF) Addition

Retentive on Delay Counter

Addressing Concept
• Allen Bradley • Siemen
• They call its slot Rack • They call its slot Rail
• Max. Rack = 3 • Max. rail = 11;

I:0.0/0 ………….. I:0.0/15 (for input address)

O:0.0/0……………o:0.0/15 (For Output address)
T4:3.pre
T4:3.acc/Dn/En/TT (for addressing of timer)
Conclusion
SCADA can be considered as an application to a physical system which

provide controlling , processing , storing and analysis of data . PLC ,

Apart from other controllers , has robust construction ,reliability , and

good working in abnormal condition and security and can do complex

process with good efficiency . It provides password locking , PLC

suspend option and High level security. Therefore it is used in most of

the industries for automation . PLC and SCADA can also be used for

Home automation , office automation .
