Definition
• A stroke occurs when the blood supply to part
of your brain is interrupted or severely
reduced, depriving brain tissue of oxygen and
food. Within minutes, brain cells begin to die
• There are two main types of stroke: ischemic,
due to lack of blood flow, and hemorrhagic,
due to bleeding. Both result in parts of the
brain not functioning properly.
Risk factor
• Being overweight or obese
• Physical inactivity
• Heavy or binge drinking
• Use of illicit drugs such as cocain and
methamphetamines
• Potentially treatable risk factors
• High blood preassure
• Cigaratte smoking or exposure to secondhand
smoke
• High cholesterol
• Diabetes
• Obsctructive slep apnea
• Cardiovascular disease
