philosophy that reached
its height in the 13th
century.

The medieval university was formed by the
association of teachers and was chartered by
pope, emperor, or king. The faculty was
exempted from taxes and military services, and
immunity from arrest by civil authorities.
Cathedral Schools were headed by a chancellor,
while the university was headed by elected
rector who functions as chief executive.
