Achievements
In 1812, when Syed Ahmed left for Hajj, Punjab was under the control of the
Sikh regime of Ranjit Singh.
Muslims in the areas controlled by Ranjit Singh were unable to carry out their
religious practices.
Syed Ahmad decided that the Punjab was the place from which to launch Jihad.
He toured Rajasthan, Sindh, Baluchistan and Afghanistan to enlist men to fight
the Sikhs and in 1826 established headquarters near Peshawar.
Won battles at Akora in December 1826 and later at Hazrothe.
WORK AND CONTRIBUTION
(JIHAD MOVEMENT)
As Syed Ahmed had studied under Sheikh Abdul Wahab, his work
was influenced by Wahabism with which the Pathans disagreed.
REASONS FOR THE DECLINE
OF JIHAD MOVEMENT
Although Syed Ahmed Shaheed failed to finish Sikh rule in Punjab yet his Jihad
Movement enlightened a flame of freedom in the Sub-Continent. The Pathans of
the Frontier province were greatly inspired by the courageous deeds of the
Mujahideens, The tribesmen continued the Jihad for freedom against the British.
Similarly the Mujahideen spread the spirit of Jihad throughout the length and
breadth of Sub-Continent. The spirit of freedom led to the war of Independence in
1857. In addition the Jihad Movement imbibed in the Muslims the spirit of Islamic
nationalism which ultimately led to the Two Nation Theory and establishment of
Pakistan.
