Balochi Language
 Balochi is the regional language of Balochistan
 It is the least developed of all the regional languages
 It was spread by Balochi tribal who migrated from Iran
 The Balochi literature maybe divided into 4 periods :

1. Early medieval period (1430 – 1600)


2. Later medieval period (1600 – 1850)
3. Modern period (1850 – 1930)
4. Contemporary period (1930 to present)

Literature produced by early poets of the 15th century has no


record as it is preserved traditionally with people.
How it is Being Promoted
No newspaper or magazine was published in Balochi up till 1940.
however, after partition Balochi received a little boost due to efforts made
by many different associations and by the establishment of different T.V
stations. Radio stations have also started their broad cast in Balochi. The
Balochi literary Association was set up which published many
newspapers and magazines. With the establishment of Quetta television
station Balochi has received a great boost. At present Balochi literature is
on the road to development . There are two categories in Balochi :-

Sayad Zahurshah Hashemi
Before the 19th century, Balochi was an unwritten language. The
official written language was Persian, although Balochi was still spoken
at the Baloch courts. Sayad Zahurshah Hashemi wrote a
comprehensive Urdu Arabic script and standardized it as the Balochi
Orthography in Pakistan. This earned Sayad Hashemi the title of 'the
Father of Balochi. This orthography of Balochi script has been
introduced in his Balochi pamphlet "Balochi Nama Qasim" published in
1987.

Mir Gul Khan Nasir
• British linguists and political historians wrote form with the Latin
script, but following the independence of Pakistan, Baloch
scholars adopted Urdu Arabic Script.
• The first collection of poetry in Balochi, Gulbang by Mir Gull
Khan Nasir was published in 1951 and incorporated the Urdu
Arabic Script.

Introduction to Punjabi Language
• Punjabi is an Indo-Aryan language spoken most
popularly in the Punjabi province of Pakistan.
• It became an independent language in the 12th
century but this name Punjabi was given by the
Mughals in the 17th centaury
• Punjabi language has more than 70 dialects
spoken in different sub regions of Punjab
• It is the native language of the Punjabi people
who inhabit the historical Punjab region of
Pakistan and India.
• Punjabi spoken by 130 million native speakers
worldwide, making it the 9th most widely
spoken language in the world.
• Punjabi is the most widely spoken language in
Pakistan and the 11th most spoken in India.

Punjabi is getting more popular through:
1. It is popular language among Sufi poets who use it for their traditional
mystic and romantic folk poetry
2. Novels, dramas, short stories and poetry are written in Punjabi language

3. Media radio i.e. T.V. and film


4. Prizes are awarded to the Punjabi writers who write Punjabi novels e.t.c.
5. Its is also taught for degree and master level of examination

Alam Lohar
•Year of birth is 1928
•Famous fro his rendition oh Waris Shah’s Heer
along with other songs such as Sail-Ul-Malook
•He recorded his first ever album at the age of
13 which out sold all other singers
•He is one of the most listened singers in the
South Asia during the 70s
•His famous signature Instrument was “CHIMTA”
which he used in most of the songs and also in
his most famous song “Chimta Than Wajda”
•His poetry and songs had an element of joy,
peace, happiness and sadness
•He was most active between the years 1936-
1979 and died on 3rd July 1979 at the age of 51
•His work was later continued by his son Arif

Anwar Masood
• Born on 8th November 1935
• He is a multilingual poet of urdu and
punjabi
• Most popular in punjabi poetry
• Poetry of his contains message of
pure culture of Punjabi
• He is an international level poet and is
known world wide
• Some of his popular poetry consists of
Anar kali diyan shana, Juma bazar,
and Umree
• His famous books are Qatakalami, ik
Khwab, and ik dareecha ik chiragh

Ajeet Cour
• Born on 16th November 1934, in Pakistan
•Began her career as romantic writer but the turned to
realist
•Known to have pioneered the art of writing novelettes in
Punjabi
•She set up the Academy of Fine Arts and Literature. Later,
built the foundation of SAARC Writer and Literature to
establish peace between India and Pakistan
•Her columns and writings have established her role as a
crusader for women issues
•There is a kind of directness and sincerity in her writing
which the people really admire

Mohindra College Patiala
Established in 1875, Mohindra College Patiala, Punjab, is the oldest
institution of contemporary higher learning in Northern India. Mohindra
College was the first institution in Punjab to receive A+ grade from the
National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of the
Government of India. The college offers undergraduate and graduate
level education in basic sciences, political science, languages, history,
public administration, commerce, computer applications, agriculture
science, biotechnology and clinical diagnostics

Punjabi University
Punjabi University is a higher education institute located in Patiala, Punjab,
India. Punjabi University teaches and researches in science, engineering and
technology, humanities, social sciences, performing arts and sports. It was
established on the 30 April 1962, and is only the second university in the world
to be named after a language, after Hebrew University of Israel. Originally it
was conceived as a unitary multi-faculty teaching and research university,
primarily meant for the development and enrichment of Punjabi language and
culture, but alive to the social and education requirements of the state.

In 1904, Lord Curzon emphasized on the need of educate teachers in
art of teaching. he stated that unless a teacher is not qualified he will not
be able to teach. In the beginning, the teacher training colleges were
isolated institutions, having no concern with university. So training
schools started to build to train the teachers based on the
recommendation of Hartog committee of 1929, educational system was
revised and a degree of B.Ed was started by Andhra University in1932.
In 1936, Bombay University was the first to start masters degree in
education in Punjabi language

Language
The University is fast evolving as a seat of higher learning in the sphere of
religious studies as well as emerging technologies. In order to prepare students
to be “Global Professionals” the university is also focusing on ‘Emerging
Technologies’ including Biotechnology.
Nano-technology, information technology e.t.c. in addition Punjabi Reference
Libraries, Museum and Art gallery and Warais Bhawan also lies with this fund.
Punjabi language development is a multi-faculty department which comprises a
competent team of experts belonging to various fields of studies, textbook cells
and translation cells and parcel of this department. This is the all-round aim of
this university to develop the Punjabi culture and language to the outer world.

LEVEL3: DESCRIPTION Of LEVEL 2

Punjabi is the most popular type of language which the Sufi poets used in
their poetry traditional and folk stories such as Sonn-e-Mahiwal and Susi
Punno. This language is also used in writing stories, drams, short stories
and novels which the people not only of Punjab but also other languages
used to read and watch dramas etc and their writers are being rewarded
handsomely. The advent of Lollywood in Pakistan was at first having
movies in punjabi language which most of the people went to cinemas to
watch them. Side by side the T.V programs in punjabi language gives a
boost to this language to be heard in nation wide and also world wide.
Most off all the translation of The Holy Quran by Muhammad Ali Faiq is
also a great step in the development of punjabi language. Now for its
development educational institutes such as PUNJAB university, Mohindra
College e.t.c are established which provide educational facilities up till
the Masters level to the students in Punjabi Language.

It can be objectively concluded that Punjabi was promoted the most


between 1947 and 2000, because there is a remarkable growth of
books, magazines and dramas in Punjabi, and the poets and writers
had become visibly vibrant and active during these years

Balochi is a northwestern Iranian language. It is also spoken as the


second language by some Brahui.It is designated as one of nine
official languages of Pakistan. Balochi is closely related to other
Northwestern Iranian languages such as Kurdish.
