performed as they make the society whole. If each function is working well, society
attains progress.
1. To produce productive citizens
2. To develop self-actualization
PRODUCTIVE CITIZENRY
Educational system enables citizens to be productive members of
society, as they are equipped with knowledge and skills that could
contribute to the development of their society’s system and institutions.
This highlights the importance of formal and non-formal education in the
development of oneself and the society. Being a productive citizen
requires critical thinking. One must have the ability to understand his or
her duties and be able to respond to them by making decisions.

oneself , education encourages having the vision to become self-actualization.

ESSENTIAL LEARNING FOR THIS MODULE
Education can be both empowering and limiting, depending on how it is
facilitated in a given society. It can empower individuals to participate in their
society’s activities toward, development through knowledge and skills
acquisition. However, it can also limit the potential of an individual to develop if
the system remains irrelevant to the ever changing environment. Just like culture
that needs to change to adapt to its environment, education system must be
transformed to appropriately equip individuals.
