NDT Inspection

• It uses the principle of Electromagnetic Induction for detecting cracks.

• The cracks are detected with respect to change in material properties,
such as magentic permeability and conductivity.
ROV inspection
• It is basically a remote operated vehicle that is connected by the cables to
the ship.
• It works underwater and it ensures a high probability of detection(POD)
without direct contact with the metal surface.
• Crack signal strength depends on the distance between the surface under
inspection and probe which is termed as “lift-off”.
• The underwater electrical conductivity probe uses eddy currents to detect
cracks .
• It is sensitive to longitudinal and transverse cracks.

probes as well as the surface module. Right: EC inspection of a tubular joint on a
jack-up rig. The compliant probe attachment can be seen in white.
P&A Technique
• West Delta (WD) Block No. 94G
– production platform, rendered inoperable by a hurricane and left
leaning, required permanent abandonment.
– Limitations on the structure’s loading capacity required use of a
unique pipe pulling unit.
– The method included five phases.
