FORM
• is the look or the way the poem
is arranged on the page. Poetry,
which is written in lines may or
may not be in sentences. The
lines are separated into groups
which is called stanzas. Others,
like “haiku”, follow strict
syllables and line counts.
SOUND
• refers to the sound
device (rhyme, rhythm)
and techniques the poets
use to enhance a poem’s
mood and meaning.
IMAGERY
• as poetry element, involves
the use of words and phrases
that appeal to the five
senses (taste, touch, smell,
sound and sight). Poets use
imagery to create a picture
in the reader’s mind.
FIGURATIVE LANGUAGE
• is the creative language that
poets use to tell a stories,
share feelings, and describe
experiences. Poets use figures
of speech by choosing words and
phrases that make the reader
see ordinary things in new
ways.
THEME
• is the message about life
that the poem conveys is
the poem’s theme.
