G20 CASE STUDY PRESENTATION

INTRODUCTION
• The G20 (or Group of Twenty) is an
international forum for the Governments and
Central Bank governors from 19 countries and
the European Union (EU).
• Spain is a permanent guest-member.
• The G20 economies account for around 90% of
the gross world product (GWP), 80% of world
trade, two-thirds of the world population and
approximately half of the world land area.
• The G20's primary focus has been governance
of the global economy.
• The first G20 summit was held in Washington,
D.C. on November 14–15, 2008, at the National
Building Museum.
BACKGROUND
• In 1973 a group named “Library
Group” was formed to discuss
various economical and global issues.
• The members were the finance
ministers of Britain, France, Germany,
and United States.
• In September Japanese finance
minister joined them to become G5.
• In 1976 group was expanded to G7.
• In 1977 it become G9.
• In December 1997 G20 was finally
formed.

2019 SUMMIT
In 2019 G20 summit 8 themes were discussed to ensure Global
Sustainable Development. They are-

• Global Economy
• Trade and Investment
• Innovation
• Environment and Energy
• Employment
• Women’s Empowerment
• Development
• Health
India’s Role at G20 Summit
• India emerged as a central player at
the G20 Osaka Summit 2019.
• India displayed clarity in its agenda
and stand on various issues.
• India tried to balance between
nations like Russia and America as it
was a common element in JAI and
RIC.
• India displayed its concern over
issues faced by other developing
nations.
• India took a firm stand on Digital
Economy & AI.
• India proposed the 5 'I's – Inclusive,
Indigenization, Innovation,
Investment in Infrastructure, and
International cooperation."
PM Narendra Modi on 26th June,19 held separate
meetings with the leaders of several countries and discussed
the following issues on Human-centered future society

• Digital Economy & Artificial Intelligence
