Lungomare
The "Coastline of the Vlora City -Lungomare" is the largest project in Albania with urban and
infrastructural modernization, designed by the Municipality of Vlora and funded by the
European Union for the construction of a 3.5 km promenade in the coastal city of Vlora, a
complex of roads, parking lots, sidewalks and bike paths along the seashore.
Lungomare, conceived as a space which alternate 3 types of
movements, the vehicle, the bicycle and the pedestrian, allow everyone
to find themselves, depending on their desires, giving priority to
pedestrians.
PRESENTATION OF THE STUDY
PURPOSE
The health impact identification of the Lungomare project and visitors’ satisfaction
METHODOLOGY
• It is a transversal and descriptive study
conducted in the city of Vlora on May 30 -
June 2nd, 2019, using an online questionnaire
that was distributed within 3 days on social
networks and was completed by 245 subjects
of different age groups and different
occupations, residents in the city of Vlora.

2. Which part of the promenade do
you frequent most?
The most frequented area is: the avenue with 61,84%;, followed by the coastal urban area 50%,
the bars/restaurants 46,05%, the new public spaces 26,97%, etc.

3. For what reason do you frequent
the Lungomare promenade?
Most of the sample use this area to walk 81,05%; to drink/eat something with family or friends 61,44%; to take pictures
40,52%; to walk with the children 30,07%; to run 20,92%; for other types of physical activities 16,34%; to play
basketball 14,38%; to walk pets/dogs 13,27%, to cycling 13,07%, etc.

CONCLUSIONS
• From this study resulted that:
• Most part of sample is 18-28 years old, and female.
• Most part of sample frequents the Lungomare area.
• The most frequented area is: the avenue, the costal urban area, the
bars/restaurants, the new public spaces, etc.
• Most of the sample use this area to walk, to drink/eat something with
family or friends, to take pictures, to walk with the children, to run, for
other types of physical activities, to play basketball, to walk pets/dogs, to
cycling, etc.
• Most part of sample frequent this area 1-2 times a week, followed by other
part which frequent this area 3-4 times a week, and every day.
• The daily time in the Lungomare for physical activities is 1-2 hours per day.
• Most part of sample feel very satisfied and more than satisfied after
attending this area.
• According to the residents, the Lungomare project promotes health.
• In a scale from 0 to 10, most part of residents evaluate with 10 this project.
With its deep infrastructure transformation, attractive aesthetic appearance, functional
dimension and other attractive elements, the Promenade became just a few months the most
important pole of the city of Vlora.
• The "promenade" has changed the entire coastline,
but has also transformed the mentality to explore
the natural beauties, in the function of health,
economic and socio-cultural development.
Lungomare 2
Very soon lungomare 1 will continue with lungomare 2 which will extend to
the outskirts of Vlora city (segment of coast you see in red line).
Lungomare in Himara & Saranda
The lungomare project concept will also be implemented in other seaside cities such as Himara
and Saranda.
