WIND LOADS

Section 207 NSCP 2015

SPECIFICATIONS

■ States that buildings and other vertical structures shall be designed and
constructed to resist wind loads.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
■ Section 207 A
- Provides the basic wind design parameters that are applicable to the various wind
load determination methodologies outlined.
- Items covered includes definition, basic wind speed, exposure categories, internal
pressures, enclosure classification, gust-effects, and topographic factors.
■ Section 207 B
- Directional Procedure for Enclosed, Partially Enclosed, and Open Buildings of All
Heights. (buildings for all height method)
■ Section 207 C
- Envelope Procedure for Enclosed, Partially Enclosed Low Rise Buildings. (low rise
building method)
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

■ Section 207 D
- Other Structures and Building Appurtances
- This section is dedicatedto determining wind loads on Non-building Structures such as
signs, rooftop structures, and tower.
■ Section 207 E
- Components and Cladding.
- This code addresses the determination of component and cladding loads in a single
section.
■ Section 207 F
- Wind Tunnel Procedure.
PROCEDURES

■ Scope (Section 207A.1.1)

“Builldings and other structures, including the Main Wind Force Resisting System
(MWFRS) and all components and cladding (C&C) thereof, shall be designed and
constructed to resist the wind loads in accordance with Section 207A to Section 207F.”

Main Wind Force Resisting System

- Can consists of structural frames or an assemblage of structural elements that work
together to transfer wind loads acting on the entire structure to the ground.
- Examples of MWFRS are cross-bracing, shear walls, roof trusses, and roof
diaphragm.
PROCEDURES

■ Components and Cladding (C&C)

- Elements of the building envelope that do not qualify as part of the MWFRS.
– COMPONENTS
■ Receive wind loads either directly or from the cladding and then transfer the loads
to main wind force resisting system.
– Examples: Fasteners, Purlins, girts, studs, roof decking and roof trusses.
– CLADDING
■ Receive wind loads directly.
– Examples: Roof covering and Wall covering

2. Envelope Procedures For Low-Rise Buildings (Section 207C)
3. Directional Procedures for Building Appurtenances (roof top structures and
equipment) And Other Structures (such as solid fire standing walls, chimneys,
tanks, open signs of truss towers). (Section 207D)
