Learning Competencies
• Identify parts of a whole.
(HUMSS_MCT12-Ia-b-6)
• Identify emerging patterns.
(HUMSS_MCT12-Ia-b-7)
• See, discover and differentiate relationships
between causes and consequences.
(HUMSS_MCT12-Ia-b-8)
• Present the derived ideas through a 100-word
essay or other graphic representation.
(HUMSS_MCT12-Ia-b-9)

CHARADE
GUESS AND IDENTIFY A TREND OR FAD
A representative from the class will be
selected. He/she will pick a word to be
guessed by his/her classmates. The student
may either act of illustrate the word/s. Once
the word/s was guessed correctly, the
student representative will call someone from
the class who will identify if the guessed
word is a TREND or a FAD. A minute will
be given to guess each word.
2-32
GROUP ACTIVITY
• The learners will be divided into five
groups. Each group will draw lots to
identify what fads or trends they are
going to showcase. Presentation can
be in a form of dialogue or
commercial. Each group will be
given 2 minutes for the presentation.
2-42
QUESTIONS
• How do you think those fads and trends
emerged?
• What are the causes of the emergence of
those fads and trends? How about its
consequences?
• What is your understanding of the
relationship between causes and
consequences?
2-5
ICEBERG MODEL
• The iceberg can be divided into four
parts.
• 1. Events
• 2. Patterns
• 3. Structure
• 4. Mental Models

2-62
ICEBERG MODEL

2-72
ICEBERG MODEL
• The tip of the iceberg represents “events
” which answer the question “What
happened?”
• The part immediately under the water
represents “patterns/trends” which
answer the question ‘What have been
trends overtime?”
2-82
ICEBERG MODEL
• The part below the patterns represents
“structure” which answers the question What
has influenced the patterns? What are the
relationships between the parts?
• The bottommost part represents “mental
models” which answers the question “What
are the deeply held beliefs, values and
assumptions that keep the system in place or
drive the behavior?” 2-92
ICEBERG MODEL

2-102
• According to Alexander Spirkin,
“causality” is the connect of the
phenomena in which one thing the cause
gives rise to or causes something else the
effect under certain conditions. Its
essence and importance lies in the
generation and determination of one
phenomenon by another.
2-112
• There are two variables in this
phenomenon: one is a “cause”
and the other one is the “effect”
or “consequences”.
• Causes are active and they bring
forth effects.
2-122
• The connection between causes and
effect or consequences takes place in
time. However, there are different views
as to the co-existence between the two.

1. The cause always precedes the effect.

2. The cause and effect are always
simultaneous.
2-132
•It is not all the time that
the effects and
consequences can be seen
after activating the cause.

2-142
What is the connection of Fads
and Trends to Causes and
Effects?

2-152
• Having foresight or being able to
anticipate events, in addition to
having hindsight and knowing the
background and all available details,
will lead to more informed decisions
and decisive actions. These skills are
critical in predicting trends and
patterns.
2-162
• From all the advertisements that you
encounter, which one caught your
attention and why? Looking at the
root of it, what was the underlying
cause of the promotion? What or
who does it target? What is the
message being conveyed by the
advertisement? Lastly, is the
promoted product a trend or a fad?
2-172
• Taking into account all these questions,
you may either choose writing a 100-
word essay or illustrating your answers.

2-182
•Why is identifying the
possible causes and
consequences of a certain
situation is important in
our daily living?
