Education

Education
Education is a social institution through which society’s children are
taught fundamental academic knowledge, learning skills, and cultural
norms. Every nation in the world is equipped with some form of
education system.
Two Types of Education
Education may be formal or informal. Formal education describes the
learning of academic facts and concepts through a formal curriculum.
Arising from the tutelage of ancient Greek thinkers, centuries of
scholars have examined in contrast informal education describes
learning about cultural values, norms, and expected behaviors by
participating in a society. Through informal education, we learn how to
dress for different occasions, how to perform regular life routines like
shopping for and preparing food, and how to keep our bodies clean.
Function of Education in the Society
It is quite evident in the mindset of people that “education is the key to
success”. Education is an essential part of development of any country and
society as this is the primary way of enlightening an individual with each
facet of life. The essential qualities that a person must have in order to
sustain a good lifestyle are introduced to them early on through education.
Along with these qualities, the ideologies, culture, and heritages of a society
are taught inside the four walls of the classroom.
According to Aman Sharma (2015) education plays a complementary role for
potential.
Despite its intention to be good, poor education and a bad educational
system may discourage a child’s growth and expandability.
With the right educational system and good educators, a child’s potential can
be fully garnered, thus ensuring a developed and functional society for all
Primary Education as a Human Right
Education is a major contributing factor not just in a person’s
development but of the society’s as well. It is essential that education
be provided for every individual in society.
According to UNESCO; education is a fundamental human right as it
promotes individual freedom, empowerment, and yields important
development benefits.
Education pushed as a natural human right
Education as a human right began in 1995 through the UNESCO Associated Schools Program.
However the first attempt to request for education to be a right spurted in 1947 according to
UNESCO.
However, despite being emphasized how education is important in forming a child and a society, a
number of children still do not have access to this basic right.
According to UNESCO Statistics, around 61 million primary school-age children were not enrolled in
school back in the year 2010. Of these children, 47% were never expected to enter school, 26%
attended but left at some point, and the remaining 27% are expected to attend school in the future.
With the growing number of children lacking the basic right to education, this prompted the
formation of organizations to alleviate this kind of issue. One of the most well-known organization
whose goal is to end human rights abuse is Amnesty International which includes 2.2 million
members from 150 different countries.
As stated Youth For Human Rights, “educations shall be directed to this full development of the
human personality and to the strengthening of respect for human rights and fundamental
freedoms.” Since it is highly emphasized how important education is in the formation and
development of a society, the act providing basic necessities to ensure a child’s education must be
in the forefront of a government’s ideologies and goals.
