Volcano
VOLCANO
A Volcano is a hole in
earth’s surface through
which magma, hot gasses,
ash, and rock fragments
escape from deep inside
the planet. The word
volcano also is used to
describe the cone of
erupted material that
builds up around the
opening.
TYPES OF VOLCANOES
There are three main types of volcanoes :-

Stratovolcano

Cinder Cone Volcano

Shield Volcano
How Volcanoes Are Formed ?
When thick magma and large amounts of gas build up under the
surface, eruptions can be explosive, expelling Lava, Rocks and
Ash into the air. Less gas and more viscous magma usually mean
a less dramatic eruption, often causing streams of lava to ooze
from the vent.
How Does a Volcano Happen ?
Magma rises through rocks or weaknesses in the
Earth’s crust. When this pressure is released, as a
result of plate movement, magma explodes to the
surface causing a volcanic eruption.

Facts of Volcano
A Volcano is an opening in the Earth’s surface from
which gas, hot magma and ash can escape.
The word “Volcano” comes from the Roman name
“Vulcan” the Roman God of fire.
Volcanoes are often found at meeting points of what
are called “tectonics plates” these plates are pieces
of the Earth’s surface that fit together just like a
jigsaw puzzle.
EFFECTS OF VOLCANOES
1. Dangerous Effects
Volcanic Eruptions can cause earthquakes, fast
floods, mud slides, and rock falls. Lava can travel very
far and burn, bury.
2. Good Effects
The main good effect that volcanoes have on
the environment is to give vitamins to the soil around
them.
Difference between Lava & Magma

Lava is magma Magma is comp-

that reaches the osed of molten
surface of our rock and is
planet through a stored in the
volcano vent. Earth’s crust.
Importance of Volcanoes
Volcanoes are opening in
Earth’s crust where magma
from the mantle is able to
flow out. Without volcanic
eruptions, farming comm-
unities would not be able
to grow food, certain
building materials would
not be available and our
atmosphere would not
have its oxygen – rich
environment.
Over geologic time, volcanic eruptions and related
processes have directly and indirectly benefited
mankind.
Volcanic materials ultimately break down and
weather to form some of the most fertile soils on
Earth, cultivation of which has produced abundant
food and fostered civilizations.
