Simple Organizational Structure

-most basic structure and is applicable to small businesses where majority


of the power and decision making rests on the owner.
Hierarchical Organizational Structure

-Employees are grouped based on function, geography or product.


-Each group have one clear supervisor
Horizontal Organizational Structure

In this structure, many levels of middle management are eliminated. This


enables employees to make decisions quickly and independently. Thus a
well-trained workforce can be more productive by directly getting involved
in the decision-making process.
Network Organizational Structure

- This structure enjoys more flexibility and can bponsive to change since all
the functions are outsourced. However, the disadvantage is that
independent firms may be hard to monitor.

Job Analysis - is the procedure for determining the duties and skill requirements for a
position.
RECRUITMENT
- is the process of attracting qualified applicants to occupy vacant positions in the
company
- In recruiting there are two sources of applicants
1. Internal Applicants - company employees who are considered for promotion to higher
positions
2. External Applicants - individuals who are recruited by the company or directly apply to
join the company

After recruitment, the selection process starts when applicants qualify after preliminary
screening. The following types of tests are given to the applicants
1. IQ TEST
2. APTITUDE TEST
3. PERSONALITY TEST
The last part of hiring process is placement when a candidate accepts the job offer.
NEW EMPLOYEE ORIENTATION
-aims to provide new employees with relevant informatino about the company

Compensation - tangible equivalent for services rendered for the performance of a task in
the organization.

Salary - Payment of time worked


COMMON MODES OF PAYMENTS
1. Salary or Payment of time worked - employees are paid on the basis of time worked.
Payments for time worked have adjustments based on the ff:

a. Merit Increase - salary or wage increase given to employees on the basis of


performance
b. Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) - monetary allowance given to employees to help them
cope with the prevailing conditions of economy
c. Seniority Pay - given to employees based on the number of years of service in the
company

2. Flat rates - rate given by firms depending on policy and wage board.

3. Compensation through incentives - payments based on ouputs
a. Merit pay - given in recognition of outstanding performance.
b. Piece rate pay - given to employees who are paid a fixed rate per product produced.
c. Commission - given based on an achieved sales quota
d. Group incentives - given to a team that has achieved a particular sales or target

4. Payments based on knowledge or credentials - given to employees who have qualified


knowledge and related credentials that will greatly help the peformance of the company

5. Executive Payment - given to other members of top level management.


6. Special payment - additional compensation given in special cases
a. Overtime pay - covers work done beyond normal schedule. 25% of the hourly rate
b.Holiday pay - payment for work during regular holidays. 100% of daily rate
c. Premium pay - payment for work during rest days and special holidays . 30% daily rate
d. Night differential pay - payment for work done from 10pm - 6am. 10% daily rate

EMPLOYEE MOVEMENTS
-result of evaluation or structural changes within an organization

A. Resignation - employee's voluntary decision to leave the organization.


B. Separation with authorized cause - company's decision to terminate employees due to
business reasons.
C. Separation with just cause - occurs when an employee is terminated due to theft, fraud
and other serious offenses
D. Retirement - refers to the end of a worker's employment with the company due to old
age, illness or infirmity.
