From the problem, we see that:
1. The building is located in seismic zone 5.
2. It is an official building.
3. The building is located at type II (Medium Soil)
4. Building is required to be provided with moment resisting frame.

Now, From these points we need to

find different parameters from IS1893
1.The building is located in seismic zone 5.
From table 2 of IS1893-Part1

Hence, Z=0.36
2. It is an official building.
From table 6 of IS1893-Part1

Hence, I= 1.0
3. The building is located at type II (Medium Soil)
i) First we find the Fundamental Natural period of the building
From Clause 7.6.2 of IS1893

From Plan and Elevation:

h=13.8m

d=20m in X-dir & d=15m in Y-dir

Hence,

Ta= 0.28 Sec in X-dir &

Ta= 0.32 Sec in Y-dir
3. The building is located at type II (Medium Soil)
ii) Next we find spectral acceleration coefficient (Sa/g)
From Figure 2 of IS1893

From Figure, we can see:

Sa/g= 2.5 in X-dir &

Sa/g= 2.5 in Y-dir

Hence, Spectral Acceleration

Coefficient is same in both
direction.
4. Building is required to be provided with moment
resisting frame.
From table 7 of IS1893-Part1

Hence, R= 5.0
Finally, Design Horizontal Seismic Coefficient Ah
can be found
From clause 6.4.2 of IS1893

Since,
Z=0.36 Hence,

I=1.0 Ah=0.09 in both X & Y direction

R=5
Sa/g=2.5
Now, we find the seismic weight of the structure:

Hence,
W=15,600KN
Finally, Design Base Shear can be calculated:
From clause 7.5.3 of IS1893

Hence,
VB= 1440KN in both X & Y direction
Lateral Force Distribution With Height by static method:
Conclusion:

Hence, the Design Seismic Base

Shear of the building was found and
its lateral distribution at all storey was
done.
