CRY OF

BLINTAWAK
• Balintawak is a historical place in Quezon City
where Andres Bonifacio, the Katipunan’s founder,
was said to have led his men to renounce Spanish
atrocities with a loud cry.
On August 23, 1896, in a then hilly and
forested sitio of Pugad Lawin in Balintawak,
now part of Quezon City, the Katipuneros led
by Andres Bonifacio tore their "cedulas" as an
expression of their open defiance against the
Spanish rule in the country.
 The Cry of Pugad Lawin (Filipino: Sigaw ng
Pugad Lawin), alternately and originally
referred to as the Cry of
Balintawak (Filipino: Sigaw ng
Balíntawak, Spanish: Grito de Balíntawak),
was the beginning of the Philippine
Revolution against the Spanish Empire.[1]
