• The official languages are

• It is a part of the Western
Hemisphere, south of the United
States in Mexico, Central
America, South America, and the
West Indies.
LATIN AMERICAN MUSIC
• It is highly syncretic in nature.
• This means that it is a fusion of different
music cultures encompassing a wide
diversity of styles.
• The musical genres are Cumbia,
Pasodoble, Tango, Cha-cha-cha, Bossa
Nova, Reggae, Calypso, Samba, and
Rumba.
CUMBIA
• It is a musical style that came
from the coastal region of
Colombia.
• It started as a courtship dance
among Africans, but later was
combined with the steps of the
American-Indians.
PASODOBLE

• It is a Spanish term that


literally means “double step”.
• This lively dance is performed
to the music used during the
entrance of the bullfighter to
the ring.
TANGO

• It is a Latin American dance


form that originated in the
lower class districts of
Buenos Aires.
CHA-CHA-CHA
• Also known as cha-cha.
• This Latin American dance is of
Cuban origin.
• The dance name is derived from
the sound of the scraper and the
rhythm of the shuffling feet of the
dancers.
BOSSA NOVA
• The term bossa nova literally means
“new trend”.
• The word bossa in Brazil means that
something is performed in a natural,
skillful way.
• Bossa Nova is a Brazilian musical genre
formed from the fusion of samba
rhythm and the complex harmonies
and improvised passage of jazz.
REGGAE
• It is a musical style that is developed
in Jamaica in the late 1960s.
• This genre evolved from such earlier
styles of ska (a musical genre with
elements from Caribbean mento,
calypso, American jazz and RnB) and
rocksteady (a Jamaican musical genre
developed after ska).
SAMBA

• It is a dance genre from


Brazil of African origin.
• It is characterized by lively,
rhythmical movement in
2/4 time.
RUMBA

• This dance term may refer to


the Afro-Cuban rumba or the
ballroom rumba.
• Afro-Cuban rumba is a group
of dances associated with the
Afro-Cuban music.
