Ofcom

Is the regulator and competition authority for the UK competition authority for the UK
communication industry, it regulates the TV and radio sector.

The organization makes sure people in the UK get the best from their communications services
and are protected from scams.

the organization gets its funds from industries for regulating broadcasting and communication
network, the organization also receives grand from the government(TV License £150.00 per year)

Ofcom uses watershed (a conduct that says sexual content is banned till 8pm at night to protect
young children form been exposed to sexual content) to ensure their viewers watching
appropriate content, this is done in the interest of Ofcom viewers

Lots of complaints were made of this video as it was before the watershed so children had access

video, you would need to have no abusive or hurtful content towards people and it should not be

BBFC
BBFC stands for British board of Film Classification
The British board of film classification is an independent, non-governmental organisation
which has classified cinema films since it’s origination in 1912 and videos, DVDs since the
video recording Act was established in 1984.

The BBFC are responsible for the assessment of all new films they then decided if the movie
is worthy of been published and what age rating the new film will be, if they conclude that
the film isn’t appropriate for screening then the film will be banned by BBFC from been
screened in the cinema. For example in 1932's Island of Lost Souls, the first non-silent screen
adaptation of HG Wells' Island of Dr Moreau, starring Charles Laughton and Bela Lugosi, the
film was firstly rejected by the British censor in the 1930s

Originally rejected by BBFC in 1933, and again in 1957, the film was eventually classified with
an X certificate with been banned from watching in 1958. In 1996 the film was restored and
the film gained a 12 certificate.
In 2011, it was resubmitted for a new DVD/Blu-ray release and was passed as a PG, making it
viewable by younger children, though it carries the warning (Contains mild violence and
scary scenes).

This is an example of what BBFC deals with, therefore I will make sure my film meet the
standards of BBFC, so my film can be show to audience in the cinema.
ASA
Advertising Standard Authority, are the UK’s independent regulator of advertising across all media, they are responsible for advertisement,
this means they have to make sure all advert are appropriate for all target audience and all ages.

ASA has to deal with compline from the media, this include:
Press Advert
Radio and Television
Adverts on smart phone and tablets
Advert on screen and off screen

McDonald's Restaurants Ltd

visibly upset as he found few similarities between him and the father that his mother described. Ultimately, he found comfort when she

This was likely to cause distress to those who have experienced a close family death and was distasteful to compare an emotive theme to a
fast food promotion. The fast food chain issued an apology and pulled the advert, ASA had to ban this advert because it was not
appropriate to all ages, and it’s the organisation responsibility to protect audience from viewing such advert.

Another advert that was banned by ASA was the Unilever UK Ltd (Dove)
Dove produced a series of adverts containing statistics and opinions about breastfeeding in public. The advert were featured across
magazines, social media, and Dove’s own website. Many criticised the language, such as “put them away”, as it
BECTU
Bectu is the union for creative ambition. We represent over 40,000 staff, contract and

The Broadcasting, Entertainment, Communications and Theatre Union became a sector of the
Prospect trade union in the United Kingdom on 1 January 2017 following the merger of BECTU
with Prospect, sectors covered include broadcasting, cinema, film, digital media, independent
production, leisure, IT and telecoms, theatre and the arts.

The key aims of the union are to

BECTU is a democratic organisation coordinated by representatives elected amongst its


membership. Members are grouped into local branches which send representatives to the
policy-making annual conference, branches are grouped into six divisions.
