INTRODUCTION

• Plants have evolved a diverse array of strategies for sexual reproduction,

particularly through the modification of male and female organs at distinct
points in development. Determination of the sexuality selection history in
flowering plants can be divided into several periods. Begins from determining
early period then proceed to continue the discussion of the theory. Here, we
reflect on more than a century of research into flowering plant sex
determination.
EVOLUTIONARY HISTORY OF SEX DETERMINATION
FLOWERING PLANT SEXUALITY
• The evolution of flowering plant sexual • Systems of flowering plant sex
systems is developed with repeated determination and sex chromosome has
emphasis of some basic ecological evolved for several times. Begins with
differences between paternal and hermaphroditic system to monoecy,
maternal reproductive success. involving multiple sex determining genes.
• The emergence of genomic tools,
number of model plant species are
expanding and used for investigating the
evolution of sex chromosomes and sex
determination genes.
• Sex determination selectively affect the
action of homeotic genes.
DISCUSSION

• The basic understanding concept of

plant sexual diversity not began with
genetics, seen from floral structure that
paired with natural history. Most of
flowering plant posseses hermaprodhitic
sex expression, which individuals
functioning both female and male parents.

CONCLUSION

Evolutionar y h isto r y of floral sexuality star ted with hermaphroditic

system or bisexual . The transformation of plant sexuality involvin g
reproductive success factors eg. Pollinators, genetic approaches
through the gen o mic tools such as allogamy an d combinatorial
action .
