OVERVIEW ON PREPARATION

OF PROJECT REPORT
DIPLOMA STUDENTS
ARRANGEMENT OF CONTENTS
 The sequence in which the project report material should be arranged and
bound as follows:
 Cover Page
 Certificate
 Acknowledgement
 Abstract
 Table of Contents
 List of Tables
 List of Figures
 Abbreviations and Nomenclature
 Chapters (Introduction, Literature review, Experimental methods, Results and
discussion and Conclusion)
 References
 Appendices (Declaration form and Gantt chart)
 Publications
 The tables and figures shall be introduced in the appropriate places.
TYPING INSTRUCTIONS
 The length of the report may be about 50 to 75 pages (Cover page to
publications)
 The project report shall be computer typed (Language: English, Font: Times
New Roman, Font size: 12 point, Line spacing: 1.5) and printed on A4 size
paper with spiral binding.
 The project report shall be typed with a margin 3.5 cm (1.4”) on the left, 2.5
(1”) cm on the top, and 1.25 cm (0.5”) on the right and at bottom.
 Every page in the project report must be numbered. All page numbers
should be located at the bottom centre of the page.
 The page numbering, starting from cover page and till abbreviations and
nomenclature should be printed in small roman numbers, i.e., i, ii, iii, iv.......
 All page numbers from the chapters should be printed using Arabic numerals, i.e.
1, 2, 3, 4, 5...

ABSTRACT
 An abstract is an outline/brief summary of your whole project.
 It should have an introduction, body and conclusion.
 It highlights importance of project, aim of project, methodology used,
results obtained, and conclusion.
 It is a well-developed paragraph and should be exact in wording.
 It must be understandable to a wide audience.
 Keywords: Provide 3-8 keywords, separated by commas.

Data should be given in tables and figures

Title of table should be given above

DISCUSSION:
Discuss the results obtained through the experiment
CONCLUSION
 Restate your topic briefly and explain why it’s important. Make sure that this
part of the conclusion is concise and clear. Usually, the restated topic is
only one sentence long.
 You have to restate your problem statement. Make sure to rewrite it,
because it shouldn’t sound exactly like in the introduction. It must be
narrowed and focused on your topic.
 Remind your readers about key points. Don’t repeat your ideas in the exact
same way as in the body. This time, you don’t need to support each
statement. Just provide a brief overview of key points, and make sure that
you don’t add any new details in the conclusion.
 Note that discussing the significance of results may be unnecessary for most
papers. However, in some cases. you need to address the importance of
your points in a particular section of the conclusion. Note that you don’t
have to do it in case you’ve already considered this question in your
project.
REFERENCES
 The listing of references should be typed below the heading “REFERENCES” in alphabetical
order in single spacing. The reference material should be listed in the alphabetical order of
the surname of the first author.
 References should be citied in the main body of the text in square bracket e.g. [1],
[2]…………
 BOOKS
 Author(s) names (surname followed by initials), Title, Edition, Publisher, Year of publication.
 Example:
 1. Anderson, J. D., Computational Fluid Dynamics, Second Edition, McGraw Hill, Singapore,
1995.
 JOURNAL PAPERS
 Author(s) names (surname followed by initials), (Year), “Title of the Paper,” Title of
Journal, Volume (Issue), page numbers.
 Example:
