INTRODUCTION

Prof Kundangar had excavated the habitation site named brahamapuro, now
the subrub of klohapur located on the right site of river Panchaganga.
To preserve the antiquarain remains found in the excavation a museum was
established and was inaugrated by Raobahadur K.N. dikshit, a doyen in the
field of archaeology.
Later on in 1949 the museum was shifted in the present building.
The building of the present museum was built on developed gothic
architectural style during 1872 to 1876 under the supervision of the royal

TOWN HALL
• The exterior and interior of town hall follows gothic style of architecture.
• The porch acts as waiting area consist of two wooden 4 seater benches
placed at right angles to each other.
• The stone staircases measuring 5m width with riser of 0.15m and tread of
0.34m leads to the hall.
• The spiral wooden staircases on both the sides at the entrance leads to
the narrow gallery in the central hall.
• Town hall basically consist of a central hall with narrow gallery, and four
display rooms ,store rooms and a office.
• The huge teak wood door of height 3.5m and width 2.5m leads to central
hall.

• At the centre ,there is the mural of different dynasty and territory under
Kolhapur regime link to rest of the world.
• Central mural is slightly curved inward for the proper vision.
• The central hall is in u shape.
• Central hall is roofed by the composite truss (king post and queen post)
made up of teak wood, and roofing of pine wood.
• The town hall is in monumental scale, hence the exterior and the interior
gives the royal feeling.
• There are windows at high level and they were alternatively opened for
natural lighting, and in between them large paintings are hung.

• The windows are in point arched shape.


• Artificial lighting has done in the central hall by placing central chandelier
and also hanging sphere shaped lightings.
• There are 6 ventilators in the central hall roof.
• Ventilators are in triangular shaped and are placed in roof.
• The artifacts are displayed along the u shaped hall in the in wooden box
with glass at the front and lit inside with small tube lights.
• The artifacts are also displayed in the central space of the hall in a
circular and rectangular manner.

• Best part about the town hall was its landscaping.


• Almost three fourth part of the site is covered with landscape that is
botanical garden.

• Wicket gate measures 2.1m wide.


• Entrance gate measures 4m wide and 2m high.
• Stone piers of 45cm and 2.5m high including lamps.
• Entrance pathway of 4m wide with stone paving.
• Compound wall of 1.6m high and made up of ashlar mansory.

• Infront of the museum has a waterbody with fountain.


• On the north side has pillar to the people of this town, who went to great
war [1914-1919] who gave there lives. The pillar measures 3.5m high and
1.68m wide.
