In my opinion, active citizenship goes beyond political participation even through one

definition does not explain it, but I would say to be an active citizen is to first and
foremost understand the grassroots and build up of your own society and deconstruct the
negatives to then find ways to improve in a sustainable manner. In order to succeed one
should emphasize the importance of civil rights and apply those rights to your daily life, in
any institution (political, economic, cultural, religious, and social) and also in the private
sphere and around family. Thereby as young people we have the mental capacity to think
and for some the physical capacity to work. Young people have a powerful role of raising
awareness on other cases studies, other suggestions and participate in social events that
are powerful tool in making a difference.
If Active citizenship is understood correctly, then it will allow a space for dialogue
rather than argument. Even if this dialogue can not lead to a compromise, at least people
would have the right tools to advocate for their cause. The contribution of active
citizenship opens a door for interpretation, invention and reinvention of issues and ways
to make them better.
In my opinion, to be an active citizen you should first be aware of your rights. You can
then act in a responsible manner while promoting your community. Personally, I think
active citizenship means exercising our rights and understanding our social responsibilities.
My participation in this project has taught me that I can translate these thoughts into

action.
In a general point of view, Active citizenship is an articulation of the debate over rights
versus responsibilities. If a body gives rights to the people under its remit, then those same
people might have certain responsibilities to uphold. I think the Ministry of Education at
any country should support youth for active citizenship. The youth can start a struggle from
the schools, streets, and universities.

The process of being an active citizen works on two levels: first you are serving your
society by taking part in issues which are relatively important to every one where you can
participate in the process of developing your community. On the other side your
developing and enriching yourself with so many new things; it’s a moment when you see
two entities (you and your community) growing based on interactions between the two
where you see the picture completed.
Active Citizenship to me means actively trying to be a better citizen. It means
trying to be conscious of how communities work, or in some cases do not work. For me, it
means looking beyond Ireland to other areas where communities are suffering. Sometimes,
I feel at home, I get ought to with the rat race of Dublin; with trying to be successful, with
my friends and family. Though, of course there are important still, my participation in this
project makes me want to be active citizen in a global sense a lot more. In my opinion,
young people can play a role in bringing awareness to global problems that affect other
young people in conflict areas in the world. I can show, as young person, to my community
that active citizenship is a local, national, and international concept. They are linked and
affect each other; active citizenship role is crucial to all communities.
