Persuasive Essay
How Studying Abroad Can Change Your Life

Studying abroad is a life changing experience. The experience that studying abroad will

offer you can change you as a person. Living in another country will not only teach you about

different languages and cultures but will inspire personal growth.

decided to study abroad because I wanted a change in environment and to experience

something new. I came home from Slovakia with so much more than that. I gained knowledge

about the different cultures, languages, and values of Slovakia while attending school there for

a year. I also had the chance to experience the cultures of several other countries in Europe.

Each country that I visited showed me the endless possibilities that the world offers and what I

Project Phases
Phase 1
◦ The first phase of my project was to create a
plan on how I intended to create my project
and what I needed to create my final project.
◦ I then created a timeline for when I wanted to
complete each part of my project.
Phase 2
◦ For phase 2 of my project I started my project presentation and
began to draw up my project.
◦ I originally planned to have my project finished sooner than I did
but I found it hard to balance my other schoolwork, tennis, and
this project so it took longer than expected.
◦ I then completed my presentation and created my brochure that I
plan to hand out to the students that I present to.
Phase 3
◦ Phase 3 of my project is to present to the students at Kihei Charter. I was unable to present earlier because of
scheduling issues.
◦ I have now scheduled three presentations:
◦ Ms. Getzen’s Advisory on February 19th
◦ Ms. Federoff’s Advisory on Ms. Federoff’s Advisory on February 24th
◦ Mr. Niko’s Advisory on March 2nd.
Project Reflection
◦ This project stretched me by showing me how to schedule my time to balance my work.
◦ The skills that were challenged and strengthened were:
◦ communication skills
◦ problem solving
◦ information skills
◦ self directional skills
◦ global awareness
◦ civic literacy and engagement
◦ This experience showed me why it is so important to balance your work and distribute your time wisely.
◦ The complications that arose were scheduling issues for my presentation, finding time and making the project a
priority, and putting together the right information about the different study abroad programs together.
Takeaways for the Future
◦ The lessons that I will apply to the future are starting my work earlier and giving myself the time to complete my
project timeline goals.
◦ I will apply the lessons I learned from this project to my senior project by motivating myself to finish my project
earlier to allow myself more flexibility to add the finishing touches to my project at the end and not have to stress
so much.
Acknowledgements
◦ Mr. Stubbs - gave me advice on what I should include in my project and on his personal experience while
studying abroad in college.
◦ Rayna Tagalicod – my expert interview who gave me factual information on why students study abroad and what
an experience like that can give them.
◦ Ms. Lindsey – connected me to my expert interview and gave me advice and support throughout my project
process.
