Change is indeed an ever-present

phenomenon. Humans change. The society

also changes. Everything in the universe has
and will always change. It is part of the
process all along.
Social change
-“transformation of culture and social institutions
over time”
This changes may be brought about by cultural, religious, economic,
scientific or technological forces. It happens when powerful internal and
external forces influence it. When it happens, a major change may occur
which is felt immediately by the entire society. Uncontended members of a
society are the one who initiate social change through social mobilization.
Nevertheless, in the end, social change may give way to development or
retrogression.
Social changes in the society:
1)Parents’ function in the family changes.
2)Urbanization (to acquire work for living)
3)Onset of information and communication
technology
causes of social change
Technology/Modernization- Social Institution-
Population- Environment
1) Technology has made the lives of the people on earth
easier. The discovery of electricity has changed so many
things. Electricity, automobile, and Internet are just
some of the changes in the field of technology.
Technology has also made advances in medical
technology, even in agriculture. Change so much the
lives of the people that everything has been
modernized. (but it also brought many problems).
Social Institution
Societies are composed of different sectors that carry out specific
tasks. Each functions accordingly that contribute to the normal
functioning and maintaining stability. Doing their role will prevent
chaos within a society.

The industrialization (development of modern machines) causes

problem to the people. Less job opportunity as the modernization
increases.

Modernization causes family in rural places to transfer to urban

places. Even education today is way different to the education
system before. The main purpose of today’s education is
globalization.
Population
A growing population imposes a problem to the society.
This increases the demands and the needs that impact
the society. There will be a need to increase supply and
amends policies.
Environment
The population growth poses problem to the
environment and natural resources. The way people live
affect the environment causing natural disasters. The
issue of climate change has been debated that are highly
acted by leaders.
Sources of SOCIAL change
Invention, or the creation of something new by usually by putting
things together. Inventions can range from the seemingly complex
technological objects such as the spacecraft or even the lightbulb to
the seemingly simple such as kitchen gadgets (like can openers).
Discovery, or finding something that has existed but previously not
known. Chapter 2 provides various examples of the discovery of
material and fossil remains of prehistoric societies that changed our
understanding of biophysical and cultural evolution.
Diffusion, or the spread of cultural attributes from one culture to another
through contact between different cultural groups. Change happens as
products, people, and information spread from one society to another.
An example of cultural change is the wide variety of cuisine from other
lands that is made available to us. Fast-food courts and restaurants in
major Philippine cities offer food from around the country and the world
that is usually not part of a person’s everyday meal. Filipino overseas
workers have also been known to introduce balut and other Filipino
foods to their host societies. Another example is the evolving ideals of
beauty as people come in greater contactwith others.
