What Is Cold Stress?

Cold stress occurs by driving down the skin


temperature and eventually the internal body
temperature.

What Are The Effect Of Cold Stress?

I. Serious Cold Related Illness (COUGH ,SORE


THROAT,HEADACHE)
II. Minor Injuries/Permanent Tissue Damage(TISSUE)
III. Death(BP)

C. Dampness(ENVIRONMENT)

Types of Cold Stress

a. Immersion
b. Frostbite
c. Hypothermia
Immersion

* non freezing injury of the feet caused by prolonged exposure to


wet and cold conditions.
Symptoms.
Leg cramps, numbness, tingling, pain, swelling, reddening skins

First Aid
*Remove wet shoes/socks/boots
*Dry the feet
*Keep affected feet elevated and avoid walking
Frostbite

* freezing of the skin and tissues.It cause permanent


damage to the body especially face,ears,fingers & toes
Symptoms
* Reddened skin develops gray/white patcs,tingling
aching,a loss of feeling and blisters.
First Aid
*Do not rub the affected area
*Do not apply snow /water
*Protect the frostbitten are by wrapping loosely in a
dry cloth
HYPOTHERMIA
*it occurs when normal body temperature (98.6F) drop to less
than 95F.It can occur even at a normal temperature
(above 40 F) if a person chilled from rain,sweat,or immersion
in cold water.

Symptoms.
i. Mild Hypothermia : Alert but Shivering
ii. Severe Hypothermia: Slurred speech, Heart Rate/Breathing
slow,loss of consciousness.

*Call 911 immediately

iv. Avoid alchols
v. No Smoking
