INTRODUCTION
• Squeeze casting is the combination of the
casting and forging process.
• It is also known as liquid metal forging.
• High pressure is applied during solidification.
• MMC play a major role in the mechanical and
Tribological properties.
• Squeeze casting is most suitable method to
produce light alloy components.

OBJECTIVES
• To improve the Tensile Strength and Fatigue
Strength of the aluminium alloy by
reinforcing steel wire.
• To improve wear resistance of aluminum alloy.
• To combine both ferrous and non-ferrous
material.
• To improve the metallurgical properties such
as grain size, microstructure of aluminium
castings.
METHODOLOGY
Selection of base material

Selection of reinforcement

Determination of
process parameters

Development of

Result analysis
MATERIALS
BASE MATERIAL
Aluminium alloy LM 6.

REINFORCEMENT MATERIAL
Mild steel as a reinforcement.
PROBLEM IDENTIFICATION

• Non ferrous materials have low fatigue

strength and tensile strength of metal matrix
composite.
• Aluminium has less wear resistance.
• Aluminium is lighter than steel but it’s strength
is comparatively low.
LM6 is a corrosion resistant aluminum casting alloy with average durability and
strength, and with high impact strength and ductility. Applications: general, electrical,
marine, intricate shaped castings, and building cladding panels
MILD STEEL
• Low-carbon steel contains approximately
0.05–0.15% carbon.
• Mild steel has a relatively low tensile strength.
• Malleable and ductile.
• Young's modulus is 210 Gpa.
ELECTROLESS NICKEL
COATING
ADVANTAGE OF ELECTROLESS NICKEL
COATING
• Can be reduce corrosion and erosion.
• Reduce friction and wear and also avoid stress
cracking.
• Improve equipment reliability and life.
• Used to replace more expensive alloys.
WIRE SPECIFICATIONS

Wire diameter = 0.1mm or less than 0.1 mm.

Wire length = 65mm.
