1. INTRODUCTION TO CONCURRENT ENGINEERING

1. The widely accepted definition for concurrent engineering is provided by the

Institute for Defence Analysis of America (IDA).
2. “Concurrent Engineering is a systematic approach to the integrated, concurrent
design of products and their related processes, including manufacturing and
support. This approach is intended to cause the developers from the very outset
to consider all elements of the product life cycle, from conception to disposal,
including cost, schedule, quality and user requirements”

2. LITERATURE SURVEY 4
1. CONCURRENT ENGINEERING RESEARCH AND APPLICATION
1. The objective of CE is to improve the product quality, lower product cost, shorten the
time-to-market of the product and meet the requirements of the customer.
2. Implementing CE requires resources and rash decisions should be avoided. Without
necessary human resources and financial and technical support, the implementation of CE
will not bring desired changes.
2. CONCURRENT ENGINEERING: IMPACT ON NEW PRODUCT DESIGN AND
DEVELOPMENT IN INDIAN TWO WHEELER AUTO INDUSTRY
1. The objective of the research study is to explore and establish the impact of concurrent
engineering on product design and development on selected Indian two wheeler automobile
industries.

2. The primary data was collected through a well-structure questionnaire from a sample size
of 234 respondents of design, production and marketing groups of selected two wheeler
manufacturing companies in India.
3. Concurrent engineering has shown a very positive impact on design, development and
introduction of new product in two wheeler automobile companies. Though companies are
implementing concurrent engineering and realizing maximum benefits, they need to focus
their attention in identifying the appropriate revolutionary technologies for proto-typing
and thus increase cost savings and reduce time to market ultimately satisfying the customer
needs.
2. LITERATURE SURVEY 5
1. A STUDY ON CONCURRENT ENGINEERING - BASED DESIGN AND
PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
1. The paper is concerned about implementation of concurrent engineering technologies in the
field of design and product development. Here the technology approach and the trend of
applications are studied.
2. To achieve sustainability in modern globalised competitive business environment,
concurrent engineering applications are proposed in this study. The problem of time-to-
market can be solved by product data management, collaborative product customisation,
collaborative product development and design chain management. The time-to-volume
issues can be solved by collaborative product manufacturing and collaborative component
supply. Product lifecycle management can solve the time-to-profit issues. Implementation
of concurrent engineering in design and product development should be done for the
benefit of industries.
