Ann’s typical week
I‘m quite an energetic person and like to play sports and
exercise. I always go for a short run in the morning and then I
usually relax over a cup of coffee before getting ready for work.
At work we have a tennis league and I sometimes have a match
to play on Thursdays. I'm not very good at tennis though and
hardly ever win. In the evenings, I often go to the gym on the
way home and I almost always do some weights. I never use
heavy ones though. I also don’t like the cross trainer and almost
never use it. However, I do love a sauna after and if I have time,
What do you do on…?

Activity 1 - How often do you…?
 Go around the class and interview 2 or 3
partners to find out about how frequently they
do some of these activities. Add some of your
own. When done, report to the class how often
they do the activities you mentioned in your
interview.
 Notice any similarities and differences between
partners.
 You have 5 minutes
 Go!!!
Using can / can’t
We use can to ask or say things that are related to
our abilities;
Can you drive?
I can speak English pretty well.
Some students can type really fast.
Can you type fast?

We use can’t or cannot to refer to things we are not

able to do;
I can’t talk to you right now. I’m very busy.
My teacher cannot speak two languages
Activity 2 - Pairwork Exercise:
 In pairs interview each other to find out what
your partner can or can’t do.

Example:
Student A: Can you drive?
Student B : Yes, I can, but I can’t drive at night. Can you
play the guitar?
Student A: Yes, I can play the guitar and the piano really
well, but I can’t play the violin.
Time expressions (Before - After) for daily routines

We use before and after to relate or connect two

activities that happened one before or after the other.

Examples:
 I always take a shower before breakfast.
 On weekends, My family and I take a nap after lunch.
 Before going to bed, my roommate usually brushes
her teeth.

life”  Refer to activities you do regularly (household chores or
daily activities like taking a shower or going to school )
and others you may do only once or twice a week (like
going to the gym or to church)
 Once you have finished completing the schedule write
sentences that refer to how frequently you do those
activities. Use frequency adverbs/expressions, time
expressions (before / after ), days of the week, and other
vocabulary you might have learnt in this lesson.
 Exchange schedules with your partner to see how
different or similar your week is.
