1. Scope the problem.
2. Design the solution.
3. Evaluate the solution.
4. Satisfactory? – If not, then repeat.
Enterprise Design Methodology
Designing an enterprise is a problem which can be posed as:
Given a project goal, determine the problems and scope; analyze them
and generate requirements; generate alternatives, evaluate them, and
choose the best alternative; design the enterprise system; implement
the design; and maintain the design
with periodic updates to improve the enterprise.
The Goals of Enterprise Design
Methodology
Identifying Stakeholders needs and strategy to solve them
Another goal is that the methodology needs to guide the team on how
to generate solutions (or designs) to satisfy the requirements. This is
done in phase 3 of the problem-solving methodology.
The Goals of Enterprise Design
Methodology
How to evaluate the proposed solutions
• Abundant research indicates that the key reason for strategic failures
is the lack of coherence and consistency among the various
components of an enterprise.
Motivation for Enterprise
Engineering
• Both organizations and software systems are complex systems, and
prone to entropy.
2. Enterprise architecture.
3. Enterprise methodology.
