Ignition switch

› Communication faults in control units „Data bus, fault
value received“. At the same time, a fault is also
stored in the ESC CU, e.g.
- concerning missing response from engine CU,
- concerning G85 sensor
- ….

Cause of complaint:
› Defective ignition switch C

› Replacing ignition switch. 50 CW/2014, a modified
ignition switch has been introduced

Faulty communication ESC CU

Missing response from ESC CU – vehicle without KESSY

Complaint / Fault symptom: After switching on the Kl15 (Terminal 15), the warning lights
ESC, TPM, Airbag, Glow plug are activated on the instrument panel. Text messages are
displayed sporadically, too - Start/Stop not working, Park assist not working

Fault cause: The switching time is longer than 40ms during the switching of Kl15 (Terminal
15). At this time, communication faults concerning the missing response from the ESC unit
„Data bus, received fault value“ are stored in some control units. Simultaneously, a fault is
stored also in the ESC control unit, e.g.
- missing response from engine control unit,
- concerning sensor G85,
- ….

Service centre solution: Measuring the course of the Kl 15 signal using a oscilloscope. If
the signal is disturbed during the switching of Kl15, the ignition switch has to be replaced.

Climatronic – Changing fan stages indication

› The fan stages are not displayed using LED diodes in the AUTO mode
This function has been cancelled since MY 2015 vehicles and the fan stages are
displayed in the „Auto“ mode, too.

Fault cause: This is the state-of-the-art, do not perform any repairs or part
replacements.

limitation due to crash signal - passive/sporadic“, is stored to the control unit

Technical background/Solution:
› This is a safety function preventing further damage or an unnecessary fuel leakage in
the case of an accident.

After repairing damaged components start the engine as soon as possible, then
this fal can be erased.

The information will be added to the Workshop Manual and the ODIS program.

this function will not be active after pressing the respective button.

A note referring to this situation will be part of the Owner’s


Manual.
This is not a defect or a confused part / do not carry out any
repairs or part replacements.

Diagnostics – unit without any diagnostic address


and it cannot be diagnosed using the ODIS.

› Possible statuses of the SmartGate control unit according to


signalization of the indication LED diode located on the unit,
see below (unit is located under the driver’s seat, visible after pushing the
seat rearwards):

Indication LED statuses:


Lights red – device not OK, check wiring according to wiring diagrams, or replace
SmartGate control unit
Flashes red – the test itself is running, wait until it is terminated (if this is the first
activation)
Lights green – device is OK and at least 1 user is connected (an application for
SmartGate in phone is switched on)
Lights orange– device is in SW-update mode
Flashes orange and green - device is OK and is running in production mode
(indication of production mode)

SmartGate

› SW update procedure
› Download and save the update data for SmartGate to your computer (1 file)
› Turn on Wi-Fi® on your computer
› Turn on the ignition (ignition needs to be on throughout the whole update process)
› Connect your computer to SmartGate
› Open your computer's Web browser (It is necessary to use e.g. Mozilla Firefox or Chrome
(unfortunately, the SW update function is not available in Internet Explorer 9 or older) and
enter the address HTTP://192.168.123.1/
› In the lower part of the SmartGate menu, select the update firmware option
› Find and select the update data saved on your computer
› Selecting „start update“ will copy the update data to SmartGate (copying process takes
approximately 2 minutes)
› After data download, select „perform update“ (update process takes approximately 5 minutes).
The WiFi connection with SmartGate will be interrupted during the update process.
› After the completion of firmware update, SmartGate will restart, and refresh the WiFi
connection
› To check the SW version, you have to reload/update the page (HTTP://192.168.123.1/)

You will be able to safely control the applications using a built-in touch screen while

Complaint / Fault symptom:


› Fault memory with the fault U111000-Function restriction caused by
communication disturbances
Fault cause:
The fault occurs, when the MIB is switched off by a button on the unit.
The JCI instrument panel asks in some cases for an update of the
information, which the MIB unit does not supply to it (an invisible
process for the customer). Because of the missing response, the fault

Always verify the fault by playing e.g. an intact CD or files on a SD card. The videos showing the
operation in the RADIO mode may not be necessarily conclusive, as the signal coverage may not be
available in the respective location
Always make sure that the given control unit was really manufactured in the time period concerned –
with the respective hardware, i.e. manufactured until 9/11/2014 with H42 and higher (to be found out
looking at the series number: see Figure with the only example of a unit from 08/06/2014, hardware
H42)
