Met Gala

what is Met Gala?

Met Gala, also known as Met
Ball or Costume Institute Gala, is a
fundraising event for the benefit of
the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s
Costume Institute. Held annually,
usually on the first Monday of May,
in New York City, the Met Ball was
founded in 1948 by Eleanour
Lambert who hoped to encourage
donations from New York’s high
society community.

Met Gala is attended by

celebrities from all categories who
what happens
there?
It’s mainly a secret. Thus, the
guests must not use their phones
and no form of social media during
the event.

The visitors are invited to

explore the gallery decorated
accordingly to the theme before
sitting down together for a meal.

Camp: Notes on Fashion

Camp is considered to be very

subjective. What one
considers to be camp, might
be different to someone else.

Camp is described by fashion

experts as kitschy,
exaggerated, ironic, gaudy
and extravagant.
Met Gala 2020
Met Ball 2020 was announced
on 16 March to be postponed due
to the increasing distress over the
Coronavirus. Thereby, the event
will not take place on the usual
time (the first Monday of May)

The theme is already chosen

by the curator Andrew Bolton-

and is inspired by a scene in the
movie “Orlando” in which the main
character enters a maze in a
certain outfit and leaves dressed
