How do we form the simple past tense?
Cómo formamos el Tiempo Pasado?

English has two types of


verbs in the past:
-regular
-irregular
En el Inglés hay dos tipos de
verbos:
regular
-irregular
Let’s read the following list of past tense verbs….Some of
them are regular and Some of them are Irregular
Vamos a leer la siguiente lista de los verbos en Pasado
Simple, algunos de ellos son Regulares y otros son
Irregulares

 walked regular caminé


 studied regular estudié
 taught irregular enseñé
 gave irregular dí
 became irregular converti
 cried regular lloré
 lived regular viví
 did irregular hice
Regular verbs are verbs that end with –ed
Los Verbos Irregulares terminan con –ed
Simple form verbs: Past tense verbs:
Forma Simple

Rules for adding –ed:
Reglas para añdir -ed
 Add –ed to most verbs
 Añadir –ed para la mayoria de verbos

 Drop the “e” and add “ed” to verbs that end with “e” (smile= smiled).
 Omitir la “e” y añadir “ed” para los verbos que terminer con”e” (smile= smiled).

 Change the “y” to “i” and add –ed to verbs that end with a consonant and “y”
(carry= carried, study= studied).
 Cambiar la “y” con “i” y añadir -ed par los verbos que terminan en una
consonante y “y” (carry= carried, study= studied).

 Double the consonant and add –ed to verbs that end with one vowel and one
consonant ( drag= dragged, stop= stopped).
 Doblifique la consonate y añada ed par los verbos que terminan en una vocal y
una consonate ( drag= dragged, stop= stopped).
Irregular verbs are verbs that don’t end in –ed……..
Los verbos Irregulares NO terminan en……
-ed

give gave
drive drove
forget forgot
Other irregular verbs have a different kind of change…..you
need to memorize these!
