CASE STUDY OF PHE MATURE FIELDS

- ZAMZAM Field: High water cut paradigm to low water cut un-drain

phe.pertamina.com
Phe.pertamina.com
ZAMZAM Field: Inventory the issues

• Well position in depth structure map is not correlated

with fluid performance (O/W/F)
• Water cut performance is not controlled by up-dip /
down dip location (un-uniform water cut)
• Low API (20-25 degree of API) and high viscosity (40 cp)
• Any possibilities of the water influx has been working
from bottom as the original contact, bottom per body
cycle or edge
• Any gas cap expansion phenomena (gas lock issue)
• The most of wells in back reef area have not good fluid
performance
• The OOIP have range uncertainty due to high
heterogeneities impact of carbonate reservoir

ZAMZAM Field: Well Placement Strategy
• Big OOIP from in-house study and confirmed by static and reservoir simulation
• As heavy oil field and have high viscosity oil character
• Zonation in carbonate ZAMZAM is divided into 5 zone. Zone 1 (upper part) as good oil pay and much remaining reserve
• The reservoir heterogeneities in carbonate ZAMZAM was divided into 8 RRT (reservoir rock typing). Good RRT is RRT-1 until RRT-4
• Proven than water source come from bottom through vuggy connectivity, RRT-5 until RRT-6 and edge water. No Fracture issue!
• There are un-drain area in between high water cut existing wells (5 proven and 48 infill wells candidate opportunity)

Saturation Water (Sw) Current

Infill well placement strategy :
 Use well path design horizontally
 Well spacing is 150-200 m
 Hit the pay target at zone 1 (RRT1-RRT4)
 Avoid vuggy connectivity
 Always consider critical rate
 Avoid gas lock effect (ESP)

ZAMZAM Field Drilling Result

Proven!

Phe.pertamina.com - Any un-drain area in between high water cut existing wells
- Get zero WC and many infill wells candidate (48 wells)
Conclusion
 Currently mature field issues in WK PHE are high water cut, commingle multi-zone, recovery factor
(remaining reserve area) and production below target
 The revolusioner best practices before extra effort to recommend survaillance dan re-mapping are:
1. Re-organize database
2. Fluid character checking
3. Production Plotting in Depth Map
4. Iso-water cut mapping - Art of engineer creativity
5. Fluid performance investigation - Journey of experience

6. Well history analysis

7. M-Bal vs In-Place balancing
8. Production juxtaposition analysis
 Use the graphic, table, sketch, block diagram, rough notes, color map, cross section to get breakthrough
idea !
 Keep spirit I: optimist, positive view, aware to the risks and ready for mitigation plan
 Keep spirit II: comprehensive in evaluation, understand big picture and detail to solve problem, integration,
combine between theory, fact, experience and insting
