ABSTRACT

• In this study , a stochastic programming model is proposed to optimize the

performance of a smart micro grid in a short term to minimize operating costs
and emissions with wind sources.
• In order to resolve the power produced from the wind , the use of demand
response programs with the participation of residential ,commercial and
industrial consumers is proposed.

1
OBJECTIVES

•A Probability Density Function(PDF) is used to model the behavior of wind power

system in an attempt to obtain optimal results.

• Demand response can be categorized based on the consumers participation in

changing their consumption behavior into two groups of price-based and incentive
–based demand response programs.

• In these programs demands are considered as responsive residential , commercial

and industrial demand.

2
OUTCOMES

• A probabilistic programming is going to be implemented for the smart micro grid by

considering the demand response as the compensation for uncertainity caused by
wind generation in the form of an optimization function.

• In order to manage consumption it is assumed that consumers can participate in

demand response programs based on incentive payment.

challenges that emerge from the increasing power demands ,the subsequent
increase in pollution , and the outmoded power grid infrastructure.

WEIBULL PROBABILITY DENSITY FUNCTION

Curves of accumulated duration of wind:

• To establish probability distribution, it is important to establish the duration

curve of the wind speed for every hour of the day, every day of the year, a total of
8760 pieces of data.

WEIBULL PROBABILITY DENSITY FUNCTION

• The two-parameter Weibull distribution is often used to characterize wind

regimes because it has been found to provide a good fit with measured wind
data. The probability density function is given by the following equation:
𝑘
  𝑣
𝑘 𝑣
𝑘 −1 − ( )
h 𝑣 =
( )
𝑐 𝑐 ( ) 𝑒
𝑐
𝑓𝑜𝑟 0< 𝑣 <∞

where:
V = the wind speed [m/s]
K = the Weibull shape factor [unitless]
C = the Weibull scale parameter [m/s]

• For most of them K=2, a typical wind distribution found in most sites is known
as the Rayleigh distribution, given by:
2  v   v c 2
h  v    e
cc

The characteristics of the output power can be defined as
below:

• where vci, vr, vco, and vwind are the cut-in speed, rated speed, cutoff
speed, and actual speed of the wind turbine, respectively.
• PR is the rated power of the turbine.

DEMAND SIDE MANAGEMENT

• Energy demand management, also known as demand-side management (DSM)

or demand-side response (DSR), is the modification of consumer demand for
energy through various methods such as financial incentives and behavioral
change through education.

• Usually, the goal of demand-side management is to encourage the consumer to

use less energy during peak hours, or to move the time of energy use to off-peak

times such as nighttime and weekends
