allows to do so)

● When are meetings?
○ Every 8-10 weeks; depending on our school calendar
○ During prep for all grades. A schedule will be sent out.
● Who is discussed?
○ Teachers will be asked to complete a referral form for all
students who are to be discussed for support.
○ It is essential that the document is filled out to ensure effective

● Sped staff will be reaching out well ahead of
meetings to gather input from teachers and
related service personnel
● Meetings following an initial evaluation will occur
with the school team to discuss report, then the
parents will be contacted to meet with the team
● Ieps are typically renewed annually but some
students may have more than one iep meeting in a
year
Your Role in IEP meetings
● Be prepared to share functional and academic performance
○ Provide factual information that can be backed up with
evidence (no assumptions)
○ Bring work samples if you have them
○ Provide strengths and needs
● Stay as long as you can and be sure to sign in
Effective co-teaching
● Both teachers should be viewed as equals among the school
community. Parity will be accomplished once both teachers
share roles and responsibilities within the classroom. Both
must be recognized as the classroom teachers. It is
important for parity to be established so all students’ needs
will be met comfortably.

Paraprofessionals
● Paraprofessionals are school employees who assist in
supporting students under the supervision of a licensed
professional, such as a teacher.
● Responsibilities:
○ implementing teacher-planned instruction (should not be
providing new instruction)
○ communication and social support (Reinforce norms)
○ supervising students (Lunch, Halls, small groups)
○ behavioral support
○ supporting individual student needs
