Description.
This course student’s guide is to help you complete EIGHT different
activities for the topic “The World of Shopping”. The activities are
set in sequence to be completed in the next three weeks, and they
can be accessed either through Blackboard and Rosetta Stone.

The activities should be implemented between MARCH 30 and


APRIL 20

Please, read the information and instructions carefully before

ACTIVITY 1: SHOPPING IS GREAT
Aim: To become familiar with vocabulary and structures related to Shopping and Consumerism.

Assessment: All information in “WORKSHOPS & MORE” will be graded in the 0 to 5 scale as part of the 10%
parametrization in the course. Different rubrics will apply for the different activities.
ACTIVITY 2.
WINDOW SHOPPING
Aim: Practice and learn the structures, vocabulary, and activities indicated in Rosetta Stone Advantage “Window
Shopping. The activities are two hours long and should be accessed periodically.
Activity starts on March 30
Activity ends on April 6
Instructions:
1. Access Rosetta Stone and work on ALL the fifteen exercises for the topic: Window Shopping.
2. Take notes of the structures so you can ask questions in the web conference on April 6 from 2:30 to 4:00
3. Make sure to complete all activities before April 6

Assessment: The activities of Window Shopping will be graded on 0 – 5 scale based on Rosetta Stone report as part of the 10% of the course
parametrization.
ACTIVITY 3.
WEB CONFERENCE 1: THE WORLD OF SHOPPING
(TWS).
Aim: To explain the structure, vocabulary and activities about TWS. In addition, you can ask questions about the
topic and the activities in the guide.
 Activity starts at 2:30 p.m.
 Activity ends at 4:00 p.m
 April 13
Instructions.
1. Attend the web conference on April 13 at 2:30 pm. To access the conference use the link https://
us.bbcollab.com/guest/af1b0ddc541d455f8a4196c8aa5cecaa
2. Be ready to interact with the Professor and ask questions about the topic.

3. Take notes for further review and assessment.

Assessment: Participation in the web conference will grant a 0.1 in the final grade.
ACTIVITY 4
READING COMPREHENSION:“CONSUMER SOCIETY”
Aim: To become familiar with concepts on Consumerism, reinforcing reading comprehension skills, and practice the
structures of conditionals.
Activity starts on March 30

Activity ends on April 13

Instructions:
1. Go to the Folder REMOTE SESSIONS and download the Word document: “Consumer Society”
2. Skim / read the article to grab the general idea (page 1).
3. Read again, and this time highlight “if…” clauses, and pay special attention to words in italics. These are important
concepts to learn.
4. Complete the 4 parts of the Workshop (second page)
5. Once you have completed the activity, copy and paste the information from the workshop and paste it in the Journal,
“WORKSHOPS & MORE” that you can find in the left side column in Blackboard.

Assessment: All information in “WORKSHOPS & MORE” will be graded in the 0 to 5 scale as part of the 10%
parametrization in the course. Different rubrics will apply for the different activities.
ACTIVITY 5
“THE FITTING ROOM”
Aim: Practice and learn the structures, vocabulary, and activities indicated in Rosetta Stone Advantage
“Fitting Room”. The activities are two hours long and should be accessed periodically.
 Activity starts on April 6

 Activity ends on April 20

Instructions:
1. Access Rosetta Stone and work on ALL the fifteen exercises for the topic: The Fitting Room.

2. Take notes of the structures so you can ask questions in the web conference on April 13 from 2:30 to
4:00.
3. Make sure to complete all activities before April 20.

ACTIVITY 6
WEB CONFERENCE 2: THE WORLD OF SHOPPING (TWS)

Aim: To explain the structure, vocabulary and activities about TWS. In addition, you can ask questions about the topic
and the activities in the guide.
Activity starts at 2:30 p.m
Activity ends at 4:00 p.m
April 20
Instructions.
1. Attend the web conference on April 20 at 7:30. To access the conference use the link https://

2. Be ready to interact with the Professor and ask questions about the topic.

3. Take notes for further review and assessment.

Assessment: Participation in the web conference will grant a 0.1 in the final test grade.
Activity 7
The End of the World
Forum
 Aim: Practice through oral production concepts and topics about SHOPPING and foster written interaction.

March 31 - April 18
Instructions:
1. Write a topic sentence about: WHAT DO I THINK ABOUT SHOPPING?
2. Using the previous topic sentence, videotape your answer. Maximum length: Three minutes. Minimum
length: two minutes
3. Upload the video on the MY OPINION ABOUT SHOPPING forum.
4. Once uploaded, write an opinion on at least two of your classmates’ posts.

Assessment: All the forums uploads and interactions will be graded from 0 to 5 according to provided rubric.
ACTIVITY 8
THOUGHTS ABOUT SHOPPING AND CONSUMERISM
ORAL FORUM
Aim: Practice through oral production concepts and thoughts about Shopping & Consumerism, and foster oral interaction
Activity starts on March 31
Activity ends on April 20
Instructions:
1. Think about what shopping means to you, and how consumerism can impact society.
2. Brainstorm ideas and transform them into a video, no longer than 2 minutes where clearly you state your point of view.
3. Use vocabulary, structures learned, images, creativity, and, of course, your voice to communicate your message.
4. Upload the video to YouTube and share the link on the forum “My thoughts about Shopping & Consumerism”.
5. Once uploaded & shared, watch one of your classmates’ posts and make an oral comment; a video of maximum 1-minute of
you in front of camera commenting your partner’s thoughts.
Everybody must have a video comment.

Assessment: All the forums uploads and interactions will be graded from 0 to 5 according to provided rubric.
