Definition of ASI Dam
ASI dams are damaging milk because of
narrowing of the lactic duct or by glands not
emptied completely or because of nipple
abnormalities.
Etiology ASI Dem
Milk dams can occur on the second or third day
when the breast has produced milk. Dams are
caused by the outflow of milk that is not
smooth, because babies do not suckle often
enough, production increases, late
breastfeeding, relationship with the baby
(bonding) is not good and can also be due to
restrictions on breastfeeding time.
Several factors can cause
ASI dams:
1. Emptying imperfect mamae
2. Factors of inactive baby suction
3. Position Factors
4. The nipple sticks
5. The milk nipples are too long
Signs and symptoms of ASI dams
1. Mamae is hot and hard during touch and
pain.
2. Putting milk can be flat so that the baby is
difficult to suckle.
3. Exposure of milk is sometimes blocked by
narrowed lactic ducts.
4. Breasts are swollen, hard, hot.
5. Pain when pressed.
6. The color is reddish.
7. Body temperature up to 38oc
Prevention of the occurrence of ASI
dams

1. Use the correct breastfeeding technique

2. Mommy's nipples and areola should always be dry after
finishing breastfeeding
3. Don't wear a bra that can't absorb sweat
4. Early breastfeeding, breastfeed the baby as soon as possible
(after 30 minutes) after birth
5. Follow baby without schedule or (on demand)
6. Remove breast milk by hand or pump, if the production
exceeds the baby's needs
7. Post breast care (oblivious to pathology 169)
8. Frequent breastfeeding
9. Avoid local pressure on the breast
Management
Management for breastfeeding mothers:
1. Before breastfeeding, massage the breast gently, start from the
outside then slowly move towards the nipple and be more careful in
the hardened area
2. Breastfeeding as often as possible for as long as possible, breastfeed
the baby with sore breasts if the mother is strong enough to hold it,
because the baby will breastfeed vigorously at the beginning of the
session to suckle, so that it can dry it effectively
3. Continue to remove the milk from the breast every time you finish
breastfeeding if the baby has not completely consumed the contents
of the affected breast
4. Paste a soft towel that has been moistened with warm water on the
affected breast several times a day (or take a bath with warm water
several times), gently massage around the area that has a blockage
of the mammary gland
5. And slowly go down to the nipple
