The History of JBD
- John B. Dey was opened in September, 1956. The first year the school was open, there were
grades 5-7 to alleviate crowded conditions at Little Creek Elementary School and in 1957,
the school began to function as a complete elementary school with grades 1-7. John B. Dey
is now grades kindergarten - fifth grade. In 2017, they started constuction for the new
building and it is projected to be completed this spring.
The JBD Teachers
- Grades kindergarten - fifth grade are offered at John B. Dey. JBD
also offers gifted programs, guidance and counseling, physical
education, art, and music.
- John B. Dey has 32 grade-level teachers, 14 specialist teachers,
and 4 special education teachers.
Awards and Recognition
“Over the last 3 years, John B. Dey has recieved 13 educational
innovation grants from the Virginia Beach Education Foundation
totaling more than $15,000. These grants focused on science,
technology, engineering, math, and literacy.”
